Oh wow --- this is my first time checking out any of the parallel-universe WFMU streams. The concept always seemed odd to me ... but then I found out Irene Trudel has a show here !!! Hi Irene! I've been listening to you on WFMU for a long time & I'm so glad you have a show here.

Just for finished with the Duck Baker show you linked to Saturday (that was fantastic!), now back to the real time show, nice!
And, hi all!

@Yeti Bob-that's amazing, while I was catching up with his old appearance with Irene, Joe was playing him.
I still haven't checked out much on the other streams (aside from The Drummer Stream). I do like Ranking Full stop on the Rock n Soul Stream, not had a chance to check out much else. That's the trouble with all these streams-you have to stop doing anything else in life (including keeping up with my record collection, not to mention family, work) to keep up.

The world has gone down the crapper and issues about where I park, get a life. Rant over, let the positive vibes of your wonderful music sense wash all over me.

Irene Trudel:

Thanks for the link doctorjazz. There'll be a small dose of Mr. Duck a little later in the program. Hey Mx. Granny!
Avatar 🥁 12:24pm
YETI BOB:

@drjazz: Exactly. I live in Chicago so I try to keep up a bit with some of the non-profit stations here, to stay in touch with the local community. And then there's WFMU which I've been listening to for something like 40 years now - I grew up in NJ, started listening as a teenager, can't imagine going through a day without it. And my record collection, and random tracks that my friends send me... So I really don't have a lot of extra time/attention for the side streams. But now that I know Irene has a show on Mondays, I'll be tuning in - 3 Chord Monte is a fine show but this is more my groove here.

Yeti Bob, you're thinking of Christian Marklay the experimental turntablist. The Durutti Column was Guitarist Vini Reilly.

You're welcome, Summer and Michael and Sylvia, and Sylvia(France-NYC)!
Avatar 🥁 12:34pm
YETI BOB:

@Irene: I know Christian Marclay... but I'm really thinking of Vini Reilly on Factory Records. It seems a bit of a disconnect between the mellowness of his music and the "abrasiveness" (sorry) of this arty prank, but they really did it. Influenced by the Situationsts I believe. daily.redbullmusicacademy.com...

"The Sandpaper Cover of The Return of the Durutti Column". It was only the first pressing, and I'll bet these copies are collectible/valuable! (Later it was re-released in a more "normal") sleeve. zoviet*france did some similar things but I think Durutti Column went there first.

Avatar 🥁 12:38pm
YETI BOB:

According to Discogs: "First released in January 1980 in a sandpaper sleeve, inspired by Situationist Guy Debord's book 'Mémoires', which was housed in a sandpaper cover to destroy other books on the shelf. The sandpaper sleeve was assembled by members of Joy Division, A Certain Ratio, and others. "

Marclay released a record without a cover called Record Without a Cover.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm
