You'll notice there is no background noise when there are not music cues or SFX. I was able to isolate a fair amount of it on this one, but during the music bits, if I fade it out, the music just sounds awful. So I had to do some splicing.

Sort of. When I tried to fade out the background noise on the music, all the music cues sounded "sanded off," just very flat and almost too soft. So I leave the "hum and rumble" in when there's music of SFX, so you can at least hear the music.

You can hear the "mechanical rhythmic surface noise" on this episode, which rears it's ugly head from time to time. I do my best to isolate and reduce the sound of it as best I can, but sometimes I had to balance the overall sound with the efforts to get rid of the noise. "Same as it ever was..."

Austin Rich:

A lot of Rocky Jordan stories feel like they echo The Adventures of Phillip Marlowe episodes, just in different settings, and with an everyman in this context, instead of a detective of Marlowe's show. I've been thinking about listening to those show back to back, to see if I can draw more parallels.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48pm

Some of the random extras are also voiced by Jay Novello, so that explains why occasionally Rocky is beating up someone who sounds like Police Officer Sam Sabaaya.

I really love that show. I think it has some of the highest re-listenability of the shows I enjoy. Occasionally I will map out the story for a Marlowe episode, and then use that structure for a story I'm working on. Breaking down those plots is really helpful for writing your own stories.

It tries to play fair by giving equal time to the crooks as they do the cops, so at first it seems like it's doing something different. But after a few seasons, it feels like it is apologizing for both how bad the crooks are and how bad the cops are. It just felt... weird.
