Hey Austin, everyone! I’m more present today than last week. Last Monday I was still loopy from all the post surgery meds they put me on. I’m feeling more alert today! New hip and clearer noggin (well, less foggy ha ha)

↳ Song: ""The Impossible Murder"" by "Rogue's Gallery"
There's a fair amount of background noise on this episode. Digital Salon regulars know I do my best to restore the sound on these shows. But for this one, when I tried to isolate that background noise, it actually killed the sound for the rest of the show. So I used a few other tricks to make it sound a little better anyway, and in particular, I think the voices are much more crisp.

Since we'll be hitting the end of "Rogue's Gallery," at the end of the year, I was thinking I might try to use technology to create an album of, "Music From The Show." I don't have time for a project like that... but maybe someday...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10pm
Austin Rich:

Dick Powell is an interesting actor, and he certainly flubs lines and repeats himself during these shows. (Which were usually recorded live to transcription disc.) As we reach the end of the run of this show, you'll hear Dick Powell blow all sorts of lines. I think the tolerance for that kind of "live" performance was higher in 1946. There's not a lot of live shows broadcast like this in the modern age, for comparison.

"I need you, Mr. Rogue."

Where have I heard THAT before?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13pm

I like how Betty gives him plenty of crap. Rogue deserves it; he's absolutely a jerk, and Betty deserves better. I mean, Gerald Mohr is pretty handsome...

Rogue takes a couple pills that a cop has, and suddenly he's well enough to finish the adventure. I do like how easy it is to bounce back from an injury in stories like this.

I never know how much "sausage making" the Digital Salon is interested in, but I will say that Rocky Jordan often needs help, and I do what I can to balance the presentation for our ears. Some tools sand off too much of the rest of the ambience when you run them, so I try my best to land somewhere in the middle, where you can hear everything, as clearly as possible. It's a bit of a dance, sometimes.

When it comes to sound on X-Minus One, from here on out, we have PRETTY GOOD quality. Fans were archiving the show, and Sci-Fi was more popular in 1956, so the transcription discs that contained these stories became valuable, and not just at the stations that kept and played them over and over again. So we have very high quality archives of this show, to our benefit here and now. Still, I do a little clean-up here and there, even on good episodes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48pm
