Favoriting Hinky Dinky Time with Uncle Michael: Playlist from September 6, 2024 Favoriting

Uncle Michael's avatar View Uncle Michael's profile Favoriting

Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

"Meta" was what they redubbed the Moon on "Space 1999" when it got knocked out of Earth orbit. Only they pronounced it "Mayta", like it's some Britishism. OTOH on "Department S" (which was part of the source material for "Lost"), they pronounced "beta" like "beeta".

I had occasion to meet FLORA PURIM while she was incarcerated in a low-security federal prison on drug possession charges in Los Angeles in the early 70s. Famed jazz critic LEONARD FEATHER organized a multi-artist live concert from the prison that was broadcast on LA jazz giant, KBCA-FM. Flora's husband, percussionist AIRTO MOREIRA, participated, along with several other jazz stars. It was a grand success and a one-of-a-kind event. Flora was released after completing her sentence. Always enjoyed her work with MOREIRA and CHICK COREA in the original configuration of RETURN TO FOREVER.

I have similar feelings about the Coen brothers' filmography.

Wikipedia: "Shooting was complicated […] by the difficulty of filming several cats, which, unlike dogs, ignore filmmakers' directions." This brings to mind a memorable scene from Truffaut's ode to movie-making, "Day for Night" (1973).

@doctorjazz

I was thinking of catching Crowded House on Wednesday but was busy with work. Kinda glad I didn’t go because they didn’t play my favorite song of theirs “Better Be Home Soon”.

Yes. There was a Big Star across the street from Ardent Studios, I believe. Plus, a Beatles reference. Chris Bell was all in.

Yes & No. DonaldDrumpf is in obvious respects an unprecedented outrage. Yet the Republican Party has known for who knows how long its actual Policies are increasingly in the Popular Minority. Nixon committed treason forestalling Peace Talks in Vietnam to get Elected. Reagan made sure the Hostages weren't free til the second he was inaugurated. One man's inkling of a human soul might be another's political PR facade...
