Sun. Dec 22nd, 3pm - 5pm:
The Unsolicited Return of the Winter Soul-stice (fill-in for Paul Bruno)
(More info...)
You can't stop the seasons from turning, and you evidently also can't stop an old dog from performing his one old trick. Answering the teeming clamor of one New York Times food columnist
, Gaylord Fields is returning to WFMU's airwaves for a one-off Winter Soul-stice program. In his time away he's learned nothing, so the format will remain the same: two hours of original 1960s soul 45s, and the abuse of an expensive reverb machine for the sake of corny vocal effects.
Hey, Gaylord! Good to hear you again on WFMU, and DJing instead of officiating at the H&M or a puppy bowl or something! I won't be able to catch the whole show, but best wishes!
I once called VinScelsa when he was on WNEW and I requested Tombstone Blues by Bob Dylan and he put it on in about ten seconds, like he had it right there, he was a very Cool DJ
I'd try and stay up as late as possible listening to his WNEW program. I think he must have taken me from junior high through to high school graduation.
Welcome Gaylord! Was driving since the beginning of the show. More Gaylord fill-ins please!!! Or better yet, make it a regular weekly occurrence please! 😁

I rather enjoy the "math challenge" aspect to FU's comment board...if I can't get it correct...I probably shouldn't be communicating/commenting...but just listening. ;-)
Great show so far! My neighbors are having a big bash and they are playing terrible music and loud as hell. I have to stay in the house to avoid it. Thank you Gaylord for giving me a perfect alternative
Now this is my kind of soulstice. With a tall glass of iced groove juice on da side 🍹

Roxy🎸(The Catholic Girls):
Very nice to hear you on the air again Gaylord!!
Your Show is GREAT!!(rusty or not) Just have “a blast” playing your great and fun music and everything will fall into place.
Rock On!!!🎼🎸🎼🎸🎼
So nice 👍 I feel an attack of Thee Shop Assistants coming on…

Yes we are still rockin’!! Gail and I separated from 1984-1999. Then at a backyard party we played together and we’ve been making many CD’s Since.
Our most recent “highlight for the band occurred last month!!! Gail and I attended a red carpet premiere of the movie “The Jersey Sound” documentary that The Catholic Girls are in!!! It’s all about bands in NJ. It will stream soon on a cable channel. For info on when and where go to Mike Greenblatt’s

McGuinn: 'Well - this [black marker on the inside] is how I signed Paul McCartney's. Would that be good enuff for you ??'

"So in Love With You" by "The Flatmates"
Hi, Gaylord! I just tuned in and this sounds super summery! More, please!
Blue Line is one of my all time favorites!!! This is a great version!! I remember playing at The City Gardens and the next night Let’s Active was playing…. We were also booked somewhere so I missed them. We opened up for another fav of mine REM in 1981 at a college in Virginia. I missed see them because I got food poisoning from food that they had there for us. A BIG lesson learned…eat after the Show!!!
Hello Gaylord Fields & Listeners!
I'm out of town and busy with stuff but I was just able to tune in for a few minutes. I'm glad to hear you back on the airwaves Gaylord! It looks like I'm otherwise missing a great show. I'm definitely going to catch this whole show on the archives!
Rock on everybody!
Alrighty...got my lettuce, wax beans, new potatoes & sweet peas...and it's been an incredible experience...with this recent Gaylord set of firm faves of a punky nature...Ta Muchly!!!
Next Stop...a cool lager & glass of ice water. ;-)
>>“Did you no wrong” was originally co- written by original (pre-sex pistols band member) Wally Nightingale in 1974. The lyrics to the latter were subsequently rewritten by Johnny Rotten and in 1977 the song was released as the b-side to the Sex Pistols second single “God Save The Queen”. >>
I WAS ACTUALLY LISTENING TO YOUR OLD DROP-INS YESTERDAY - THE BRIT ONES. SO MIGHTY FINE

Roxy🎸(The Catholic Girls):
It’s such a shame when people get ripped off for their Song or major input on a Song. So many Black Musicians in the early days did. Their Songs were huge!!!… and the Music Business got their money. It’s a shame that they died poor with no medical benefits.
A happy story:
My idol Chuck Berry was a smart businessman. The first year that he toured he slept in his car after each gig. He did this because he didn’t want to support the white hotels and businesses that segregated. He accumulated $100,000.00 that year!!

My "in for a penny...in for a pound" collecting type younger bro... determined as ever...scored a copy of that first GStQ single in 77...from a small ad...and it was on regular rotation (along with that NeatNeatNeat 45 by The Damned). We were the luckiest teens on the planet discovering that music in summer of '77.
that is an awesome memory Van Winkle Like Seeing Iggy and Bowie at the Palladium in 77 Just a really great memory
5:49pm
Paul in the OC:
Fantastic set as usual & that makes two awesome Gaylord sets in two weeks. Lou from Rum Bar is right! I seriously dig the sweet soul sounds on the outro as I am about to fire up the charcoal & get some ribs smoking…
5:50pm
Jeff formerly from Rahway:
Gaylord thanks for dropping in. It’s really a treat to hear you on the airwaves, even though I’m listening on a phone in New England today.
Having SDAM... memories are "logged" in an alternative fashion. Music happens to be good for memory associations...in my case. Iggy w/Bowie on keys and Blondie as opener in Apr '77 at the PNE Gardens was my "big pivot" into the wonderful world of "really good music"...beyond what commercial radio or TV shows were "delivering"...
What a wonderful soundtrack for a lazy Saturday. Take care Gaylord and look forward to your next fill -in.
p.s. I know this may not be a popular opinion but Im calling the Butterball Battle a draw.
5:57pm

caught much of the shebang today - killer diller, Mr. Fields! (sorry about the back room rent)

Fortunately Vancouver always attracted good touring shows.
