Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17am
Doug Schulkind:

I can't explain why, exactly, but I am not a fan of Awesome Tapes from Africa. Something about the vibe feels off to me. One thing I'm thinking is a don't like the use of the word "awesome" to describe this music. It is a separating word that removes you from the experience. "Awesome" is felt external to the experience instead from in the midst of the experience. I don't know. Maybe I shouldn't be so critical.

Your spinning Airborne also prompted me to look at my bins and pull some Ornette to listen to over the weekend. I like that past me didn't always pull price stickers off used records, because then present me can sigh and realize it's not likely I could find 'This Is Our Music' for 8 bucks these days. (The price sticker indicates I probably found the LP at ye olde record faire 15-20+ years ago.)

No coincidences at all? From “Seinfeld,” we all remember Rava, the captious Finnish (!) writer who told Elaine in no uncertain English-language terms that there are no big coincidences and small coincidences, just coincidences. I get being a coincidence relativist—but a coincidence denialist?!
