I’ve seen the Man Ray short in 35mm at MOMA in NY. Not sure if they have it in their collection or if was on loan as part of a retrospective.

Matt from New Orleans:

This song is reminding me of the time I took the subway with my mom and my mom’s friend and her kids in the mid 80s. Some dude gets on with a trench coat and sits down across from us. He eventually opens it up and it was my first time seeing an uncircumcised penis so I yelled out “Mom what’s wrong with that guy’s weiner!” He quickly closed back up and ran away to the next car and my mom and her friend were laughing hysterically.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm

Uh, I was listening to that Randy Carlos track in my car, and on the surface, it seemed nonsensical, until I realized it was all euphenisms, and hold mierde, que chinga!, that was dirty as fuck. (As franco can attest, most Latino slang is buried under layers of euphenism, which make decipher it inpenetrable for gingos likek me).

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm
Matt from New Orleans:

That was far from my only encounter with pervs on the subway in the 80s. Another time I was with just my mom and I’m sitting there and all of sudden I feel someone grab my arm and my hand is suddenly on some dude’s junk. I grabbed it and yanked as hard as I could and punched the dude in the stomach with my other hand. He fell onto the floor so I kicked him and he quickly crawled away. I was an angry child.

speaking of VU/factory learned in that book that andy warhol did a few blue note covers early in his career (and speaking of grant green, matador cover art def a tribute/rip off of the warhol kenny burrell cover)

Were Marie & Sister Rosetta a down low couple at that time?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47pm
Matt from New Orleans:

My memory was correct. I remember reading a fantastic book about Sister Rosetta. I’ll see if I can find it.

@Matt: nope, I'm stuck in the past. But I enjoy hearing it on Irwin's show. I appreciate but never really listen to contempo free jazz tho.

Another interesting connection......1961 Mar-Keys “Last Night” > 1961 Willie Mitchell “I Like It” (Booker T & Al Jackson) > 1962 Booker T & The MGs “Green Onions” (also Booker T & Al Jackson)
