Let's cut the chatter and listen to some serious music. Also, defund the police.
Avatar 3:03pm
Ike:

Has anybody talked Ken off the ledge of making DJs who have bad home internet do live shows yet? Is this wisely pre-recorded or are we in for constant cutting in and out for all 3 hours again?

I'm keeping my audio off until that scary song goes away.

Mr. Giant Man, come walk with us!

@Ike: Your comment is absolutely obnoxious, demanding, unhelpful and unproductive. You know how telling DJs what to do was never something one should do? Strongly believe the same holds here.

@Ken: I thank you again for that bird/ovenmitt joke. I still can close my eyes, think about it and laugh. So good!

Hey, David. Congrats?

Gotta take off for half an hour, meet with my boss. Back ASAP.

Like maybe we could still have Bill Kelly if some arrangement could be made. Ken's shepherded WFMU thru some very rough fields, made some great calls, but he's not infallible, so what's wrong with commenters, uh...commenting?

JakeGould:

@ListenerRobert: The larger issue is many commenters (such as you) effectively gossiping about decision making being made behind the scenes and in clear cooperation with DJs. None of us know and it’s really none of our business.

Polluting a playlist with demands and uninformed gossip on things you don’t know — and will most likely never be included in — only adds to the noise the already strained resources WFMU staff has to deal with.

THANK YOU FABIO FOR BEING ON THE AIR!
  3:30pm

Oh, and I just gotta say, Ms. Braun's "shaking like a chihuahua in an ice bath" is one for the ages.

I can actually SEE your finger wagging, Jake.
  3:33pm
Listener Robert:

JG, we don't exactly have to be insiders to tell that doing all the shows live by remote has posed significant technical challenges that might not be worth their "live"-ness. What's wrong with discussing that in comments?

Ike:

For those of us who enjoy gossiping about WFMU, I thought this interview w/Ken was really interesting (for after Fabio's show is over, of course), and it's part of what I based my earlier comment on: www.radiosurvivor.com...
But hey, I acknowledge that I could be wrong. And I often am!

Fabio rules first with an iron fist, then with a wooden foot, and lastly with a piece of string.
  3:38pm
David in London:

This Heat. Deptford in the house!
  3:39pm
JakeGould:

@ListenerRobert: Because it has nothing to do with the specific show on the air, and Ike’s comment was right at the top of the hour preemptive complaint and 30+ minutes later things are fine.

@Carmichael: “Jake doesn't like it, Robert. Doesn't like it at all.” I can’t imagine others —DJs and listeners — like it either. Don’t blame the messenger!

@Ike: “For those of us who enjoy gossiping about WFMU…” As someone who has now dropped you from all social media contacts and who have met you in person a lot of your desire to gossip really crosses a lot of personal respect lines.

How many emails and in person discussions have I received from you gossiping about DJs personal lives? More than I ever wanted. And even after telling you to stop you STILL emailed me gossipy overly personal nonsense.

And that radio survivor post is hilariously not even close to “gossip” since the station promoted it all over; many of us have read it.

Give it a rest Ike. I am right now.
  3:39pm
Listener Robert:

Yes, I listened to that interview too, in which Ken laid it out.

Another thing that gives me perspective was this week's Blast of Hot Air, in which Ken noted something I either had missed or that he hadn't said before: that 5 friends and acquaintances had Covid-related deaths. Now I look at his precautions w.r.t. WFMU staff in a different light.
Avatar 3:44pm
brainiac:

Somebody remind me to take umbrage at something Handy says when he gets back.
  3:45pm
Listener Robert:

JG, you're taking offense where none was intended, and inferring meaning that's not there. I doubt that the people you THINK were bothered by Ike's remark actually were.

The shows are on a schedule, comment threads catch whatever's on the air at the moment. I wasn't online when Ms. Braun got off that great quip, so I'm commenting here. Similarly, Ike's noting of technical difficulties wasn't necessarily about the current program.
Avatar 3:45pm

@Carmichael: The best cutter I ever had in town was a guy who liked to drink on the job. So fast and good. Then he went to prison for wife-beating. When he got out I gave him another chance, but when he cut the back of my neck with a straight razor while drunk, that was it. I've been settling for 2nd best ever since.

@Handy: Welcome back to the fun, buddy!

As a student, I went to the cheapest barber in town. It was in a back room behind the counter of his newsagent shop. He had only one arm and would 'hold' your head with his stump. I didn't think anything of it, at the time, except, of course, the price.
