Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:10pm

Avatar 🦇 1:17pm

whatcha getting at the liquor store?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:19pm
Handy Haversack:

We need vermouth (sweet and dry), Cynar, Campari, a top up on wine, and probably whisky. And I guess if they have any comfort or self-control, we'll price it.
Avatar 🦇 1:19pm
Julie:

@Andrew there was also an easy listening type grunge album. I have that one somewhere

The album's title supposedly comes from Cambridge slang for sex, commonly used by Pink Floyd friend and occasional roadie, Iain "Emo" Moore, who would say, "I'm going back to the house for some ummagumma". According to Moore, he made up the term himself.--Wikipedia

@2:09 Handy Haversack: I am OK, some cabin fever maybe - unlike some foolhardy Finns who still visit each other, I have not seen anyone for a month! Then again, this also means a month stone cold sober - and I needed that. How are things on your end Handy?

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:16pm

Well, we are NOT sober, PCCha, but also a little stiry crazy. We had a supermarket run earlier and need to hit the bank and liquor store later -- and errand day.

We are probably drinking a wee drop too much, but I'm going to forgive us for a while!

Otherwise, despite the occasional tantrum as we wrestle with tech, we're doing OK at the Haversackery. The cats are satisfied and asprawl. The domestication of the dog proceeds apace.

Hey Julie sorry to bother you with a dumb question, but have you done some changes to your computer or something? @2:16 Handy Haversack: like I said somewhere else around wfmu, no booze home deliveries here in Finland unless you are a business owner. Hence, sobriety, as a supermarket run would be a risk - I was scared shitless going to a nurse/doctor twice during the last 2 weeks.

Granny, too true! Also Robyn Hitchcock's doing another Beatles show tomorrow 3pm Eastern time so evening perfect for Europe. I only caught a bit of yesterday's.

I guess from June onwards public events of less than 500 people will be permitted here in Finland - I wonder if this is a little too early. I mean 500+ people in a concert hall might be safer than 100 people crammed into what they call a "toilet venue".

oh, I love Andrea Parker, Julie! I listened to her album Kiss My Arp so much when it go released

That Kate Bush song reminded me - I don't remember why I missed it, but still a bit miffed about not catching The Mystery of the Bulgarian Voices feat. Lisa Gerrard last October. It was apparently raaather good.
Avatar 🦇 2:40pm
Julie:

hiya Sylvia! I haven't heard much of her, I need to check out that one too
  2:40pm
Dean:

I have fond memories of 8-tracks. A weird early David Bowie, a Genesis compilation, and most importantly, the first time I heard Yes's Close to the Edge was off an 8-track I borrowed from a neighbor. But yeah, other than sentimental value, they were a pretty clunky medium.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm
Michael 98145:

i'm so old i actually had an 8-trk player stolen out of my car ...
Avatar 2:42pm
Photocopy Cha Cha:

@2:40 Dean: they never came here to Finland. Cassettes were the thing here.
Avatar 🦇 2:42pm
Julie:

yeah mom's car had an 8-track player when I was little. She'd let me pick, it was usually between Tom Jones and Vicki Carr.
Avatar 🦇 2:42pm
Julie:

wow not at all? I feel like they were around a long time.
Avatar 2:45pm
Photocopy Cha Cha:

@2:42 Julie: I guess they were a very American thing. Like I once wrote on Larry's show, Bruce Springsteen was among the last releases (the 1985 live set, only available from a record club), perfect car music - and of course I have no first hand experience, just have read about it.
Avatar 🦇 2:46pm
Julie:

8-track seems like it was invented just so you could play them in the car
  2:46pm
Dean:

My player was in one of those cheesy consoles with a tuner and a turntable atop a bookcase in my bedroom. Shoot, you could find budget priced 8-tracks and LPs at the supermarket!
Avatar 🦇 2:46pm
Julie:

and there was a very satisfying feeling when that 8-track clicked into place

Isn't there a scene or two in the old Bond films, where there's a little open-reel tape machine inside the dashboard of the Aston-Martin? So ahead of the curve. A reel to reel in the car.
