Sun. Dec 22nd, 3pm - 5pm:
The Unsolicited Return of the Winter Soul-stice (fill-in for Paul Bruno)
(More info...)
You can't stop the seasons from turning, and you evidently also can't stop an old dog from performing his one old trick. Answering the teeming clamor of one New York Times food columnist
, Gaylord Fields is returning to WFMU's airwaves for a one-off Winter Soul-stice program. In his time away he's learned nothing, so the format will remain the same: two hours of original 1960s soul 45s, and the abuse of an expensive reverb machine for the sake of corny vocal effects.
...strange subconscious realm with Ken Nordine & 'Bump Step' & the Johnny Smoke commercial from my earliest years...Tom Waits & Harry Smith have apts. on the block...
I have termed GF the Master Weaver - which is no dis to all the FMU-Js that artfully curate Sets - & consistently plunge me happily in over my head culturally...
Wendy, it's all with vocal collabs, and pretty much all are excellent. The man certainly takes his time putting out albums, but he makes it worth the wait.

(Also, not entirely sure Stretch would embrace Shadow. Bobbito tho )
Belated Evening Greetings, Mr. Fields, and to all the Fieldsters! The Power Schnauzer Walkabout has just been completed; it's time to level up and let the second phase of mental/aural stimulation commence!
The '70s sitcom is "Good Times" with "Dy-no-mite!" being actor Jimmie Walker's character's catchphrase.

lost two of my favorites this past week...Chris Darrow of the great band Kaleidescope...also someone I met when in high school around 1980...Steve Martin Caro the lead vocalist of the Left Banke...remember him telling me that his mom was a flamenco guiartist which influenced their sound...walk away renee is my favorite single of all time...don't walk away gaylord...
"mercury falls" by come; "winter" by the 'stones
- i don't know "our winter love"
...but, "autumn leaves" is sort of a winter song! and if that's acceptable would have to be my favorite winter song.
