Merry Christmas Erica! It has been a long-ass day. Just got home a little while ago from Pennsylvania.

OKAY, I'm ready for a Christmas purge.

Saw the video of Darlene Love singing this on "The View." There is no way she is 78. I'll have what she's having.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm
Jeff Ash:

+10 for the red Solo cup. DJ Santa might be nightmare fuel, though. ;-)
Avatar 10:05pm

Darlene can still sing for sure Jeff. She was a powerhouse vocalist, for early 60s standards.

I see you played the stereo version of Little Saint Nick. The mono version has the ding dings in the track, which I'm more familiar with.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08pm
Funky16Corners:

@Erica - yeah, the separation is wide open on that one
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08pm
Jeff Ash:

Agreed, Erica. We saw Darlene Love on her holiday tour 3 years ago. Tremendous then, tremendous now.
Avatar 10:10pm
Erica:

Yeah I heard the stereo version on WJBR a year or so back. Sounded odd since I'm used to the mono version.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm
Funky16Corners:

I hope everyone has had an excellent holiday, whichever one (or none at all) you celebrate.
Avatar 10:17pm
Erica:

I can honestly say that the Phil Spector Christmas album, in my opinion is the reason so many modern Christmas songs, both original and covers sounds like they're from the 50s and 60s. "Underneath the Tree" by Kelly Clarkson is a fine example.

There needs to be more Hanukkah songs. There are some but the most memorable ones are "Oh Hanukkah Oh Hanukkah" and the "Hanukkah Song" by Adam Sandler.

I kind of can't stand Adam Sandler.

@Erica - This is an actual aircheck. I used to have a studio-recorded version by Shepherd on cassette that came in a set of four stories.
Avatar 11:00pm

Cool Larry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01pm

There's a wealth of this kind of stuff on the internet. Someone was posting airchecks as a podcast you could get in iTunes.

I'll have to go look for that, for sure.

Circa 1974-1976 I used to come home from school and listen to Bob and Ray, then Mystery Theater, then wait until 9PM for Shepherd. My Pop was already a fan from the old days, so he dug it too

Or is it Sandy Annie? I'm used to hearing Ralphie saying he wanted Tinker Toys.

I'll have to ask my Pop if it was a toy of the era. He is child of the Depression

Man, kids were so easy to entertain back then.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18pm

It's funny, he keeps mentioning Goldblatts Department Store. The only other place I've heard of it is Billy Boy Arnold's 'I Ain't Got You' where he talks about having a charge account at Goldblatts'

Life before the internet and even television Larry. And yet kids of the 60s and 70s say they 'survivied'. Try living in the 30s and 40s. Haha!
Avatar 11:19pm
Mod Mokka Matti:

Being born and raised out in the Northwest, My parents likely didn't know all that much of Jean, prior to "A Christmas Story", but they really enjoyed that film. It reminded them a lot of their own growing up in the 40s (as they were both Depression babies, too).

All right, I admit it; I didn't listen to FMU on Christmas night. So I caught up with the archive for what will probably be my last FMU Christmas show of 2019. Great stuff. Loved hearing Shep, whom I dug mostly for his books rather than his radio show. Nice Jingle Bell Jazz cuts and a fine show overall. Happy New Year, F16C .
