Greetings from Green Bay, where it has just started snowing again. Just dropped in to see what condition everyone's condition is in.

OMG I just realized that I don't know where my copy of Plan 9 is.... what dusty box in which dim corner of what pile in which squalid room filled with stuff my kids will end up paying someone to haul to the dump. The horrors.

yes, the ceremonial tana tea leaves, and my mojo, and staff.

Dangit! Tomorrow's the Halloween Parade here in NYC but it's supposed to rain, so I'm not in the mood; anyway, can't find my scary clothing chest; where is it, down in the dungeon?..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm
Funky16Corners:

I'm wondering if we're going to get washed out for Halloween. I feel bad for the little kids.
Avatar 10:15pm
Erica:

I hope it will just drizzle too Larry. People on FB keep complaining not to have trick-or-treating (well Halloween itself) postponed and to let the kids go out in the rain.
Avatar 10:17pm
Erica:

It's like you can't get a simple yes or no answer.
Avatar 10:17pm
TDK60:

yeah, we should all just go out anyway. I'll go as a Pagan Rain God or something..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17pm
Funky16Corners:

If it's just a drizzle I say go ahead, but I also don't see any harm in postponing until Friday. Candy's not going anywhere.

Good Evening, Mr. Grogan - and to all you other fine people as well. It's getting a bit nippy here in the upper Pacific Northwest. Thank goodness for the hot wax that is streaming through my laptop, to make it a bit more tolerable!

TDK i've been wondering how can i make myself a surrealistic witch for halloween
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30pm
coelacanth∅:

i'll probably just wear a hat and put a few freckles on my face. see who looks at me with a question mark above their heads.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm

I love a good, inscrutable Halloween costume
Avatar 10:31pm
Erica:

I got the Halloween blues now.
Avatar 10:31pm
TDK60:

I am the one to ask. You find all those clothing items in your Attic or Dungeon that are not often worn. You adorn yourself, then assume the proper attitude; then you do a ritual with tea leaves, before leaving the compound.
  10:37pm
rw:

Happy early Halloween! And Happy early Birthday Erica!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37pm

If the guitar sounds familiar on this, it's the flipside to the Munsters theme

Something about 60s Halloween/spooky themed songs make you wanna get up and groove.

And why does that sound like Donald Duck?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42pm
Funky16Corners:

It's the sound of the Mummy in the movie
Avatar 10:43pm
Mod Mokka Matti:

Call me a bit biased, but one can't have a truly good Halloween without a heaping helping of some Hammond action.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57pm
coelacanth∅:

TDK i've been a surrealistic something a few times, or at least tried to be. i have lots of stuff to work with, but i'd like to keep it subtle. subtle enough that people who don't know me might wonder if i'm in costume or not.
i was a witch a few years ago...or warlock? (i did wear a dress, but i don't think i looked female) maybe that was a surrealistic witch?

...hey rw!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00pm
Funky16Corners:

I was a beatnik ghost once.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00pm
coelacanth∅:

...your description of people looking at you approvingly then their expressions changing is appealing to me! i feel like there must've been something subtle about your costume that kept people on their toes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01pm
Franco Twinkie:

Larry, my musical cohorts and I were just chased out our practice space while we we were making a Halloween video by a grumpy family member! This is not supposed to happen to senior citizens. Made me feel young again!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02pm
Funky16Corners:

Hey Franco! Glad you made the scene!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03pm
Franco Twinkie:

I have this on the Mondo Hollywood sound track. On Tower, naturally.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04pm
Funky16Corners:

I didn't know there was an LP!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05pm

i was a rhinoceros once when i was in my teens or 20s. i made a cone with heavy paper and strapped it to my head. i was hoping to start a trend of conceptual costuming but i don't think a single person appreciated it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07pm
coelacanth∅:

my friend George had the monster mash album but i don't think one was on it
  11:08pm

Grateful Undead Head! That would be a good costume.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10pm
Franco Twinkie:

Jefferson Vampires. Har!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm
coelacanth∅:

...so who did the heavier munsters theme when it was redone a few seasons in? i always thought it was the standells but i just looked and there's mention of them appearing on the show but not of the theme song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13pm
Franco Twinkie:

If you find it Larry, It most likely will be beat to crap, just like mine.
Avatar 11:13pm
Erica:

When it comes to TV themes, especially Halloween-themed ones, I always end up finding cover versions by studio artists like on those sound-alike albums.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14pm
Funky16Corners:

@C - I'm not sure, bit I will look into it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16pm

Avatar 11:17pm
Mod Mokka Matti:

Speaking of Halloween Hammond action, will Arthur Brown and Vincent Crane be making an appearance with "Nightmare"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18pm
Funky16Corners:

Not tonight, but I'll put it on the list for next years extravaganza!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18pm
coelacanth∅:

yes! that little incident, 4-5 years ago inspired me to learn what everyone should know about 8-track tapes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm
coelacanth∅:

(...okay, not really everyone.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm

Does beer plus tiny chocolate bars equal dinner?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24pm
coelacanth∅:

it depends what kind of beer
Avatar 11:25pm
Mod Mokka Matti:

@Funky16: Thank you! BTW, "The Committee" is one intriguing bit of film. Vincent seems to be channeling Schroeder quite a bit as he's backing up Mr. Brown.

Avatar 11:27pm

@Funky16: Oh that was a new one to me. "Slide" has been a long-time personal favourite, so I'll have to go back and listen to this one again.
  11:28pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30pm
Funky16Corners:

Here you go, Erica: www.discogs.com...
Avatar 11:31pm
Erica:

Thanks Larry! I heard two soft rock/country rock bands on this Halloween show tonight and I wish to check out more of their material, if any.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm
coelacanth∅:

yes, if you don't have any W.C.Field's Three-Squares Lager; or Dr.Dean Martin's Basic Food Group Ale around, then a scotish ale or an irish stout should do the job.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm
Funky16Corners:

@Erica - Was the other band the Holy Mackerel?
Avatar 11:34pm
Erica:

@Larry ZZ Hill
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35pm

ZZ Hill was a hard soul thing
Avatar 11:36pm
Erica:

Not the song I heard tonight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38pm
coelacanth∅:

someone gave me a 2nd generation mixtape c.1982? called "space skank" with no info and it took me years to track down all or most of what's on it. it turned out probably over 1/2 of it is Lee Perry (or produced) including vampire
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39pm
Funky16Corners:

He did a bunch of versions of Vampire
Avatar 11:41pm
Mod Mokka Matti:

Is that the same man doing that movie trailer VO the same one who was Arch Oboler's sidekick on Lights Out? I can't think of his name atm...

Wow. My bike trail is on fire!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42pm

Should I ride out there to see it??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43pm

oh shit. how close is that to where you are?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44pm
Funky16Corners:

Stay out of there! Those fires look terrifying.
  11:44pm
rw:

The trail is about 13 mi. round trip, so less than 7 miles.
  11:45pm
rw:

My son says I should go ride the trail so he can see me on the news.
  11:46pm
rw:

Sorry, I'll stop now. Got a little excited.
Avatar 11:47pm
Mod Mokka Matti:

Ah, I think Frank Martin was that VO for the Teenage Frankenstein trailer. I came to know a lot of OTR programs rather early, through parents who grew up with it when it was all first-run.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48pm
Funky16Corners:

I want to find some of those Arch Oboler programs to listen to.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50pm
Franco Twinkie:

Yeah, previously mentioned grumpy person was evacuated from her house in Pacific Palisades because of The Getty Fire. Even if you aren't personally affected, people all around you are.
Avatar 11:52pm
Erica:

This song is too overwhelming to listen to. Can't make out the mystery.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52pm
Funky16Corners:

That's just the VU being avant garde...
Avatar 11:53pm
Mod Mokka Matti:

@Funky16: the nice thing is that there are far more sources now online for OTR, including Oboler's work, compared to when I was young in the 70s/early 80s. Back then, my sister and I would listen to the CBS Radio Mystery Theater with our dad nearly every night, on KIRO out of Seattle.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54pm
Funky16Corners:

@Erica - Especially near the end where it sounds like John Cale is playing the piano with his elbows
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54pm
Franco Twinkie:

Larry, I was outside digging thru the trash so I missed some of the chat. I have an Arch Obolor record called Strange Truth. That's and understatement!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54pm
Funky16Corners:

@MMM _ I was a HUGE Mystery Theater fan when I was a kid!
🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:55pm

VU MM is impressionist mood thing. Suggestive. Just as the singing interludes are suggestive fragments. No literal story IMO.
  11:55pm

FT, my job for Monday was postponed due to that Getty Fire. That day was pretty weird. I think the layer of smoke has been coloring my perception of everything the past few weeks.
