@ Fredericks: It's available in this boxed set of his work: The Complete Tape Music Of Dick Raaijmakers -- not sure if it's still available or not, but we do have it here in the library. I've played things from the box many times since its release. don't think I'll get to it today though....

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04pm
Mr. Pumpy:

@Fredericks. First off I would say a person's name should be spelled correctly, especially when an affront of some sort is the main focus (even if only reporting on it...perhaps it was Google translate. Secondy I would say, to each their own. I hate so much art criticism at this point that I stopped freelancing as far as reviews go. I like to write a more informative piece about something I appreciate rather than going in cold and being forced to pass judgment. I have agree more than ever with Zappa's statement, 'Writing about music is like dancing about architecture." I'm pretty sure he meant reviews/critiques being he read a shit-yon about music in his autodidactic exploration of composition and such. Anyhow...what do you make of that quote?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm
Mr. Pumpy:

Typos aside...
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 5:09pm

I found you have to find a reviewer first that has your taste in music. ;)

Avatar 5:14pm

Zappa also said "Most rock journalism is people who can't write, interviewing people who can't talk, for people who can't read."
Avatar 5:15pm
Fabio:

@ Bas: I have done some, not a lot. mostly on film -- much less on music.
Avatar 5:16pm
Fredericks:

Mr. P. I have to say I agree more than a little bit with the quote.
I did not know the dancing architecture quote was Zappa's.
Regarding my originating quote: I like this line with the typos "polluting the world and poising our minds."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm
Mr. Pumpy:

@Bas...I get that, but it's not opinion I'm looking for of late as much as analysis. Maybe I read to many reviews in my day. Who knows? I see your point, though. Roger Ebert was my movie man because even when I disagreed with him he seemed to be looking at all aspects of the work.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm
Mr. Pumpy:

Fredericks...yes! I wasn't going to even point out that trainwreck of a passage.

I did some concert reviews back in the MySpace days. I learned not to listen to other members in the public and to start with a quick list of positive points. Then a review was easily made: just balance the positive.
