Listener Robert:

Was that the whole painting, most of it, or what? Pretty impressive!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm
Irwin:

In its entirety.

My baby has me wrapped up in chains too.

This really is one of the greatest records.

hey irwin and everyone else. loved the moondog special last week (had to catch it on the archives since i was away). got me to listen to moondog (1969 columbia) and I loved it. looking forward to the show

this could be the soundtrack to the lovely painting

Irwin, hello.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm

Too bad about the premature malfunction of the Radio Stars song. It had a great ending.
Avatar 3:19pm
Wild Neil||Peace All:

Corduroy sounds like its name. So, Poland was cool! However,
1. Women stopped wearing high heels, stockings and dresses as much. Maybe only 5% now, it used to be 60% or more!
2. The food was awesome!
3. No Poski Fiat Maluch EXCEPT at a car show near a castle, and in the Obi parking lot. That's it. They used to be as common as ants.
I REALLY LIKE the painting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm

Hello Irwin! Love this Norah song!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm

The real question, of course, is how much did you pay for that painting?

Clavinette with mute slide on, or something like that, can we call it prepared piano?

nah scott, you can get tons of nasty bugs from the internet. and im pretty sure i spotted a furniture troll hiding under my couch the other day...

AAP: I didn't buy it. I travel to flea markets just to photograph strange art.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm
AnAnonymousParty:

Hmm, do your CD-R's have post-applied adhesive paper labels on them? If so, here's the thing: CD's are recorded from the inside out of course, and the RPMs increase for the outer tracks. Now the adhesive paper labels tend to shrink over time and cause the disc to 'dish' and become concave, or just warp, and the laser has a harder time dynamically focusing on the outer edge at the higher speed with it being a moving target and farther away. You can remedy this sometimes by taking the disc and flexing it gently (the risk is you'll overdo it and break it) to flatten it back out to its original state. Works for DVDs too.

I'm sure I have stuff with Hollenbeck and Bleckmann, but not this one. Always impressive.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm
Irwin:

AAP: These were the final discs from a stack purchased a couple of years ago. They have some sort of odd fog around the edge. Gotta be careful with the final tracks on each.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm
Irwin:

And, no, never use adhesive labels.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm

@Irwin: I wish I could get my wife to just bring back photos of all the stuff she otherwise brings back from estate/yard sales and flea markets. She probably wishes I'd do the same.

this Hollenbeck cut is epic in its excellence

  3:36pm
Laura L:

Irwin, do you photograph the flea market paintings surreptitiously? I've seen some vigilant flea market dealers yell at people who want to snap a photo but not buy the masterpiece!
  3:36pm
Dean:

Link rot? Is the CD manufacturing plant PDO? They manufactured disks for dozens (hundreds?) of titles from the mid'80s to the early '90s that were toasted. They had the decency to replace them free of charge. I replaced about fifty of them c.2000.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm
AnAnonymousParty:

Yeah, we were all sold a bill of goods with the 'permanent' storage capability of CDs, et al. I've got commercial CDs that won't play anymore due to what what looks like the aluminum oxidizing within the plastic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm
Irwin:

LL: I ask and offer them a few bucks to snap. No one has turned down money for nothing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm

wow, what a killer hollenbeck track <3

Itzall Ablurr:

"Digital rot" is the phrase I've heard regarding CD degradation. Colorful!
  3:39pm

"Link rot?" [Use your noggin', Dean.] I meant, of course, disk rot.
  3:39pm
scott:

My CDs seem to live longer in temperature averages along the 40deg latitude.
  3:41pm
Laura L:

Thank you--I have always wondered if you sweet talk them into it, but a little cold hard cash speaks sweeter than words. That's a fair deal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm
AnAnonymousParty:

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Whenever you see the word 'digital', replace it with 'crappy' and tell me it doesn't make more sense.
  3:42pm
Dean:

The PDO issue was a manufacturing problem. None of the replacements, also PDO product, have caused me trouble now going on two decades later. But every once in a while I see used CDs from labels who worked with PDO during the '80s, Hyperion being a major one, and those original disks have turned brown.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm
The Oscar:

The first summer I ever lived in an apartment, I made it my mission to study Exile on Main Street and Exile in Guyville until the supposed track-by-track correlation made sense. It never did, but I got some great tunes out of it.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm

Those old rotten classical CDs were the bane of my existence when I was buying for a used record store. That, and people who refused to believe their moldy, desecrated copies of Thriller weren't worth three figures.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm

Three figures -that's more than dozens of dollars, right? That's serious coin.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm
Passaic River Blues:

@The Oscar: hahaha I observed that phenomenon in my limited experience in music retail. Even just putting aside the store's need to profit on margin, I always wanted to ask such people, "What would YOU pay for this dusty, cracked copy of Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass?"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm
Irwin:

No mention of the PO, Ike. I love the USPS. I commend their valiant efforts to serve the shipping needs of their fellow Americans. Except during lunch and extended breaks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm

@PRB Exactly! Then there was the old classic, "What do you MEAN they're not in good condition? They've been sitting in an attic for thirty years!"
