This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

Hi Evan! Hi all you out there!

Hiya Doc!
  7:03pm
?:

Morning to you Evan & Doc. How long is a piece of string?
Avatar 7:04pm
Flash Strap:

Tonight in the Explorers Room, we'll play another game of word association and chance-based song sequencing by taking our previous experiment (see here: wfmu.org... ) and vaguely recreating it by choosing songs with similar or same titles and putting them in the same order.
  7:04pm
zonk ludlow:

That previous message was from yours truly. Think I'm still freaked after last week.
Avatar 7:05pm
Flash Strap:

hello ?, great to see you. i think a string is usually either infinite, or 5 inches long
Avatar 7:05pm
Flash Strap:

oh, hello zonk! how splendid that it's you!
Avatar 7:06pm
northguineahills:

Been hearing a lot of Toussaint on WFMU lately, that's a good thing!
  7:07pm
zonk ludlow:

Happy to go with infinite. Toussaint in the morning in Aus is a lovely thing.
Avatar 7:07pm
Flash Strap:

indeed! in this case, it was pure chance. but he is so great
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:07pm

I have been on the Stream, don't seem to be getting the show.

this Intersystems record is so unusual. If I recall it's an early iteration of Syrinx

why was this record made. thank goodness there was such a time where this made sense at all
  7:18pm

@NGH, Be happy to show around Sydney if you make it. Loving the Poitier, what a distinctive voice, perfectly logical.

Sun Ra, the one point in the Venn Diagram that is intersected by all WFMU djs!
  7:19pm
Dean:

According to Variety magazine, Jan. 31, 1968, he'd recorded it three years prior and it flopped. "But now that the Negro actor is a hot Hollywood property," WB saw an opportunity to make a buck on it. It was retitled, "Sidney Poitier Journeys inside the Mind."
Avatar 7:21pm

Hi Dean! that's interesting, I'd never seen the re-release before now

Re: Axelrod — there was a Wax Poetics interview (that took 2 issues!) which is a great read. I still need the “Seriously Deep” LP. I tend to pickup any 45 that has his name on as a production credit — and there are a lot!

More about "Poitier Meets Plato"... The record was nominated for a Grammy in '65, the original year of release. Photographer Ed Thrasher received the nomination for "Best Album Cover (Other Than Classical)."

In fact, it appears the record was issued in '64.
