This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

Listener James! hello!

NGH! I did, sorry I haven't written you back yet. The matter in question looks like it sounds amazing

Zonk my man! Good to have you in the room and ready to freak out

next track up might be the most on-brand thing I could play as a Give the Drummer boy. but I really feel like playing it... and anyway it's a good thing to be Very Much a Drummer
Avatar 7:16pm
Flash Strap:

the drums... on this... are good
Avatar 7:19pm
northguineahills:

Ok, just making sure your email hadn't changed recently.
Avatar 7:19pm
Flash Strap:

no, i'm just bad at emails a lot of the time and let them pile up on me
Avatar 7:23pm
northguineahills:

This Art Blakey is new to me, wow! (art blakey himself isn't new to me, obviously).

I only do emails once a week unless I expect something, so I understand.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24pm
doctorjazz:

the Blakey is CRAZY, don't know this either (checked Discogs for personnel, but it is not correct, or at least I don't think so, no sax listed)
Avatar 7:25pm
Flash Strap:

Orgy in Rhythm 1&2 are some of the best percussion recordings ever laid down, ever. Super highly recommended to any and all

Sabu is among the personnel, I know. I'll link a lineup: www.discogs.com...
Avatar 7:27pm

I am completely obsessed with this Gil Evans track, by the time it plays out you probably will be too
  7:29pm

I'm with ya Flash, my fave version of Spoonful. The album title gives it away.

I'm tigger bouncing away in about 5 mins. gotta hit the agriculture store for more gardening supplies. If I don't make it back (I need a pint), thanks Evan!

It's not even 10pm and I'm leaving work, I didn't take the brown acid today ;) !
Avatar 7:32pm
Flash Strap:

@Zonk: mine too. it's actually fairly new to me, I've been trying to catch up on my Gil Evans and when this turned up I was utterly transfixed, and became ecstatic. like a religious moment. he's such a master, but this might be his masterpiece
Avatar 7:32pm

well tiggers are wonderful things, but I hate to see ya go NGH! have a great pint

I saw Sam Fan Thomas in the early-ish '80s in New York. One of the first live African shows I can remember attending.

Flash Strap, your opening set performed open heart surgery on my ears. In a good way.
Avatar 8:00pm
Flash Strap:

Hi Doug! So happy to be your attending surgeon on this fine night

would love to have that Sam Fan memory, must have been incredible
Avatar 8:02pm
Flash Strap:

INSANE guitar on this track

not sure, but I think one of them is Berkley Jones, who played in BLO, Ofege, the Funkees, and others. quite a performance
Avatar 8:03pm

great use of moog too

Hi Brian! Which track are you referring to?

i wonder if i am missing the gist of a monkeyshine
Avatar 8:25pm
Flash Strap:

Ofege always has cool guitar
Avatar 8:26pm
still b/p:

The Gist Of A Monkeyshine sounds like an American play from the mid-20th century.
I was listening to something else and lost track of Explorer time...and then had to let Eydie Gorme finish.
Avatar 8:28pm
Flash Strap:

Hi there B/P!
Avatar 8:31pm

This song rules insanely hard
Avatar 8:36pm

So "proposal jam" is a thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:39pm
doctorjazz:

Is this jazz quartet the Asiko Rock Group? (I feel like the track listings don't match what's playing there days)?
Anyway, time to hit the road, leave the office, take you to the car, thanks, Evan!
Avatar 8:39pm
βrian:

Would that be akin to premature proposition?

got an Ethiopians track coming next which will give us a dose cold reality, don't worry

Oscar Pettiford once broke his arm playing softball with Woody Herman's band.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30pm

"the ethiopians" much better, in my opinion, than "the ethiopian"
(when Leonard Dillon split up the group and called himself "the ethiopian") -not impressive, what i've heard
