What luck that it's Eid al-Fitr, Half-Christmas and Dave Mandl all in one day.
Avatar 10:12pm
redkayak:

Shoot.....find 5 more and we can have an all-Dave softball team...
  10:14pm
cheri:

hello dave, it's really great to be here once again listening to super sounds!
  10:14pm
Carmichael:

Heya Dave. Spent the last 2 weeks ripping down wallpaper, in anticipation of the texturing guys tomorrow. What say we chill tonight?
Avatar 10:15pm
Dave Mandl:

Evening Old Dave, Dave L.B., redkayak, Ken, cheri, Carmichael.
Avatar 10:15pm
Dave Mandl:

@Ken: Wow, it really is half-Xmas.
Avatar 10:16pm
Dave Mandl:

I used to be a decent softball player, but it's been a while.
Avatar 10:16pm
HollyT:

Hi Dave, loved your pics from the far reaches of Brooklyn today
Avatar 10:17pm
Dave Mandl:

@Holly: Thanks! Nice day for a walk in Marine Park.
Avatar 10:19pm
redkayak:

16" softball used to be quite popular when I was a youngster. No gloves - plenty of jammed fingers :)
  10:19pm
cheri:

dave, I know you don't really take requests, but will you them tonight?
  10:20pm
cheri:

* take
  10:24pm
PMD:

AGF! Hi Dave - love that you are back.
Avatar 10:28pm
redkayak:

I THOUGHT that sounded Fairport Convention-ey. Excellent.
Avatar 10:32pm
Dave Mandl:

Hey PMD. Thanks.
Avatar 10:32pm
Dave Mandl:

@cheri: Not really, unless it happens to be something I have with me here.

...back when being directly Hendrix-inspired was practically a given...
  10:35pm
Eric Hat:

Curly Curve. Nice. Thnx and good evening Dave and all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...but vocal sounding oddly 'auto-tuned'...
  10:36pm
JakeGould:

Hey Dave! Those “Shitkicker” vocals sounded odd even thought I knew they should be odd.
  10:37pm
Eric Hat:

I was just imagining the singer beating on his chest or tapping his throat...
Avatar 10:37pm
Old Dave:

Softball, of the co-ed kind? We enjoyed a lot of that in my day, Dave. It was great fun.
Actually a bonding thing that lots of businesses also did to get employees outside and drinking beer every Summer. A few colleges still have intramural teams, I hear... good for them!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Tapping throat - I saw Chris Cornell do that...thot it was pretty hardcore.
  10:40pm
JakeGould:

Maybe akin to what Frampton did with his talking guitar schtick?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Frampton used a 'talk box': wire out your guitar amp into a little speaker, w/ a tube from that into your mouth - then picked up by your vocal mic...
Avatar 10:43pm
Dave Mandl:

Welcome Eric, Jake.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

SirLordB - early intimations of SpeedMetal.
Avatar 10:43pm
Dave Mandl:

@O.D.: Not co-ed. This was a bunch guys from the neighborhood when I was 13 or so.
  10:44pm
cheri:

well dave, it's been real great hanging out with everybody, but I got to run, so sorry, see you all next week! night!

Your wealthier listeners have no excuse falling asleep at the wheel on their respective ways back home from their vaca properties now.

Wild set! SLB is new and immediately legendary to me.

Hey Stevel. Thanks. Yeah, SLB are definitely legendary.

Agreed. You're everywhere, feint one way, no look pass way over there. Lovin it.
Avatar 10:56pm
Dave Mandl:

@tuner: Welcome, and thanks.
  11:00pm
JakeGould:

Late comment, but it’s always nice to hear stories of people in the non-fancy parts of NYC somehow getting a bit of fame. 68th Street in Bensonhurst mainly sticks out to me as “metalhead” but that’s just me.
Avatar 11:00pm
HollyT:

This track has a distinct mid-80s telephone hold music quality
  11:01pm
Pete L:

Digging the quiet storm of mellow madness
  11:01pm
PMD:

How lovely! Diamond girl
  11:02pm

Whoa, really? England Dan's brother. This is good old West Coast soft rock.
Avatar 11:02pm

What a summer song
Avatar 11:03pm
HollyT:

Ah man. This S&C song is a fave. TOTAL time-machine. I'm eight, listening to AM radio in my mom's Pinto (my parents had TWO Pintos! A station wagon and a hatchback!) Good times
  11:03pm
cheri:

thank you dave, I just love seals & crofts!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04pm

YachtRawk - but w/ vectors in Folk / SingerSongwriter...& hey - they're good @ it...
Avatar 11:05pm
Old Dave:

Yes, Diamond Girl. Certain things happened around a campfire in the 70's, in my case.
But we were force fed this commercial crap back then. It was not THAT great.
Sorry.

  11:08pm

2 pintos, HA HA ... that was funny and cool. I'm almost 60, I can dig that humor.
Avatar 11:08pm
Old Dave:

AM ruled back then, Rev. And we heard the same shit over and over and over and over and over and over
Avatar 11:09pm
HollyT:

I was five in '73. S&C, America, et al is the sound of Childhood Magic. It is what it is. *shrugs*
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...yeah...& some of it I knew was good Pop even then...
  11:14pm

England Dan Seals was Dash's brother, he had his own set of hits with John Ford Coley.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15pm
Drunken Creep:

Sounding good here
  11:18pm
cheri:

dave, I did a little research here goes---james seals & Darrell "dash" crofts
  11:20pm
Carmichael:

Wait, I'm a mess. Dan Seals is the brother of Jim Seals. Being informative is nothing if you're wrong ...
Avatar 11:20pm
Dave Mandl:

@cheri: Well done.
  11:23pm
cheri:

thank you dave and goodnight.
Avatar 11:26pm
Dave Mandl:

Night, cheri.
Avatar 11:27pm
Old Dave:

We can afford to be nostalgic now, is what I'm saying here. When there was only radio, in the 1970's,
it was astounding when WLEE in Richmond VA allowed a gospel show early every Sunday that would melt Sinner's pants off.
Then, along came "progressive" radio. WGOE was a disruptive force in conservative Richmond while I was in High School.
Speaking of softball, Dave... they had a team! Yes, the GOEnads. And I did a brief stint among the very high squad as pickup catcher. We won, if I remember.
  11:32pm
Carmichael:

This has been in the rotation lately, for good reason.
Avatar 11:34pm
Old Dave:

Please name that reason, Carm
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36pm
Drunken Creep:

Excellent track there, Sakamoto
  11:41pm
Carmichael:

See: Drunken Creep remark.
Avatar 11:42pm
Dave Mandl:

@DC: We aim to please.
Avatar 11:46pm
Old Dave:

Dave, you are maybe on what is known as Atlantic time, and that is a good thing. The oysters apparently
understand, they shuck so willingly... it is a sin. Don't tell them. Please.
  11:48pm
Pete L:

ever the Godz from Columbus Ohio?
rock type music. Biker rock. Great
Avatar 11:51pm
Dave Mandl:

@Pete: I don't remember exactly where, but I'm pretty sure it was the Midwest, so that could be.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55pm
Ike:

The weirdest episode of Twin Peaks imaginable melted my face off of my face tonight, and that Nate Young track seemed to re-invoke it a bit. I wonder if Lynch likes Bruce Conner. \GOT A LIGHT?\
Avatar 11:55pm
Dave Mandl:

Wikipedia says they were from NYC! I was very wrong.
Avatar 11:59pm
Old Dave:

There is just something so fine and subversive about this and every FMU show.
You Twin Peaks fans need to pick up Pynchon.
Good Night!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59pm

@Ike, got a light!
