Listener comments!

  10:32am
for pete's sake:

The latest “Zilch” Monkees-theme podcast was a crappy Rhino Records infomercial for an “amazing amazing amazing amazing” album of new Monkees songs yet to be assembled, to cash in on the Monkees' 50th annivesary Year of the Monkey tour. So concert-goers gotta sit through six of these DUDS in place of classic favs.

Jeff Golick:

Holy mouse-garoos! WTF is that thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42am
Amanda:

@Jeff, I think they really are called "kangaroo mice"? The proper name for one is a Jerboa, which is much more frightening.
Avatar 11:48am
ndbob:

Gretting Amanda and everyone! Always good to see a rodent GIF!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53am
Amanda:

To address the first comment above: While I hear your frustration, I respectfully disagree with your negative take on the new Monkees album. I love the old material too, but see no need to scoff at fans/podcasters for being excited about new stuff coming out. I, for one, am curious as to what the album will sound like! Also, IMO 6 would be an acceptable number of new tunes for them to play in an hour-long show, especially since they've performed 60s songs exclusively for several years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54am
Amanda:

Hey ho, everyone! Let's get this joint, um, jumping? Scampering?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58am
Dominick:

Oh father, I am so ashamed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm

Good lord, I loved this song when it was in the top 40.

How do you do, Amanda.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm

...but upon googling, they LOOK exactly how I pictured them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm
Uncle Michael:

Seriously, how *do* you do?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm
Amanda:

@Dominick, it's OK, a lot of people are mad about the Monkees album.

Excited to hear so much love for Mouth and MacNeal, my Dutch countryman and woman (respectively).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm
Amanda:

And, thank you for asking, I do AWESOME!

Hi everybody!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm
Dominick:

I was quoting Sylvester Jr. regarding the kangaroo mouse.
New Monkees music is A-OK by me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm
Amanda:

The beginning riff of this song sounds delightfully like the Super Mario 2 music

Wait, has the show been on for 2 hours already?

Nate K.:

Stud, appropriate name for this band.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm
Uncle Michael:

Personally, I don't have a dog in that fight but I can't make myself see Mickey & Peter as "The Monkees." The nature of the material they're singing is another matter.

Hi all, just Monkee-ing around, hehehehehe...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm
Amanda:

@Dominick, I was just messing with you. @MONEYBAG$, you all would like that, wouldn't you. You are sending me to an early grave.

+100 to @sugarwolf for the Steve Sanders quote!
Avatar 12:19pm
@sugarwolf@:

@Amanda: I'm a regular Again With This podcast listener which is recapping the entire 90210 series (well, if they can last that long) and that quote gets used A LOT
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm
Amanda:

If this show were to one day veer away from the 60s/70s and become 100% a repository for 1990s nostalgia, that would be OK with me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm
Jeff Golick:

Steve Sanders -- I should consider him for a Halloween costume one day...

Hi Amanda-I love that Paul laugh you just did !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm
Amanda:

@Jeff, I can envision it. I really can.

@Rich -- surely it was a Ringo laugh? But I hope to do a Paul laugh someday anyway. And thank you!
  12:44pm
P-90:

I missed the Ringo laugh! Is anyone else having trouble with Pop-Up player today? I switched to the MP3 stream, working fine now.
  12:45pm
for pete's sake:

that "Hard Day's Night" laugh clip into mic break sounds very "Young Ones"
Avatar 12:46pm
KP:

Is this what Difford had in mind?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm
Amanda:

I will reproduce it here in typed form.
Paul: 'Course he can talk. He's a human bein', isn't he?
Ringo: Well if he's YOUR grandfather, who knows. Heh-heh-heh-heh-heh.

@KP, I doubt it, but thanks for pointing out the shared title (I always think of that!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm
Amanda:

@fps, I had never thought of it that way! I really should resurrect my Young Ones drop-ins.
  12:51pm
P-90:

I love all the regular "Hard Day's Night" samples.
Except maybe "Let's get a coffee and leave the kennel to Lassie", because it usually means the show's almost over. Or is "You can be replaced, Chickie Baby" the one that comes near the end...?

Good afternoon, Amanda and Amandrians. Some jerboas can apparently have long ears; they look like kangaroo rabbit mice!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm

@Jeff G, yes, her hair was the main object that blocked the offending genitalia which I thought was a great touch. @ngh, in this one it's called the Springfield Community College, but it looks the same.

for pete's sake:

Coincidentally, Pete Seeger mentions Woody Guthrie's childrens songs 19 minutes into his edition of a stack of Paul Leslie music legend telephone interviews I'm listening to on youtube. “Several dozen of the greatest children songs that have ever been written” were for a daughter. Tragically she lost her life at age 4 when her dress caught fire.
