I've saved up *my* shekels for the marathon! Anybody who hasn't -- time to stop drinking that fucking expensive artisanal coffee NOW and use your dusty old french press instead. Then you'll have a few bucks for FMU in the next few weeks, you damn hipster.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 3:28pm

Hello, Fabio, Failures! @Ike: word.

Chemex. There is the ongoing expense of filters, but the cleaning costs are less.

i just my tax refund... now there is some good news. extra moneys for the marathon!

Screw the french press. Make mine weapons-grade ethiopian beans in a rusty old percolator every time, forever.

I really know nada about coffee, being a Ten Ren loose-leaf tea guy. @RTD, does good Ethiopian restaurants & groceries in D.C. also mean good Ethiopian java beans? Do they have a hint of injera and/or a whisper of sauteed collards?
Avatar 3:31pm

nice work, Cecile!

I know zilch about artisinal anything. Coffee? Trader Joe's Bay Blend works just swell in a Chemex.

True, Cecile: It could be placebo nonsense, but there seems to be a huge difference with just filtering DC tap water vs. straight. The beans are worth it. They died so that we might live.

Dark Sunny Land sounds like when they go through the serial killer's house when he's not there, and there's like pictures of victims and notebooks and maybe a doll or two...very creepy and very cool.
Avatar 4:00pm

Trader Joe's has the best placebos. They're cheap and they work better than any other brand.

  4:05pm
Dean:

It's all in your head, Claw!

Dean, you joke, but I was involved in setting up a clinical trial of a dietary supplement, and it was hard to get the placebo & product to match in appearance.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm
Tome:

get him Clay
  4:12pm
Dean:

Robert, that seems totally plausible. As a layman, I find the whole concept of placebos fascinating. The term "placebo" tends to the layman to mean "ineffective" (as in, "It was just a placebo."), but of course that's the very question under investigation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm
DCE:

@ Robert, I noticed that too about that first track
Avatar 4:13pm
Chris from DC:

And of course we know the ones that mother gives you don't do anything at all.
  4:14pm
Dean:

Just imagine that all those '60s psychedelic bands were in fact inspired by placebos.
  4:18pm
Robert:

Well, it wouldn't've been that hard had the sponsor not changed the product from a pill to a capsule. The contents were different-colored powders, and you could see them thru the capsule wall. And that was after they'd gone to some previous trouble to get a slightly mottled-shell pill made to match their one-off production run!
  4:21pm
Robert:

Whew, DCE, I thought nobody else noticed music similarities I did! Lately I've been trying to get others to acknowledge a similarity--not in melody, but other ways--between "Promises" by Barreracudas & "You May Think I'm Crazy" by the Cars. I think they deliberately tried to evoke it as a pastiche, an inside joke, whatever.

And if you think it's hard for me to get others to notice "echoes" in MUSIC I hear, you should see the trouble I have convincing others that "Lost" was deliberately modeled on some earlier stories that were clues to its real, inapparent, solution.
