I do have to say that during the last few days WFMU has somehow made me like holiday music again! An xmas miracle! (Although, of course, it's the wFMU-ness of these holiday songs I like)

Talking of which, Adrian, I guess you have more commercial fare being played in stores, shopping malls etc your side of the pond?

Happy Merry Krimble everybody! Hoping to put you all in the holiday spirit. Sean, you'll be happy to note Mr. Met in a stocking cap near the bottom of the tree.

Just spotted him, awesome Irene! Great article in yesterday's NY Times, our Metsies are the same odds as that mob in the Bronx for next season making the playoffs.
Avatar 9:17pm
adrian in mpls:

@Sean - yr right. you end up hearing the same song over and over again wherever you go. like, the same 10 songs everywhere. thankfully, i haven't been subjected to any of it this year - thanks to the combo of headphones and no money to do any shopping with!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:19pm
Sean in Bristol UK:

This yuletide music is a blessed relief from the usual offerings on the usual music stations over here which got me thinking. Anybody fancy listing the top three crimble tunes of a more commercial bent. The criteria is one, the choice of tunes makes you want to throw an imaginary brick at an imaginary radio and two the choices brings you out in a cold sweat, as in you will or have heard this fine tunage whilst shopping at the eleventh hour to get that bag of walnuts or jar of cranberry you forgot whilst battling the hordes at your local Target or Safeway!
Avatar 9:21pm
Van in DC:

I knew I was forgetting something. Dang it. I was watching a movie.

Hi Irene and everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22pm
Irene Trudel:

Yeah, it's inundation of the same old Xmas tunes in every store. Maybe that's one of the reasons it was chaos in the grocery store I stopped in earlier tonight. I'm trying hard to at least play alternative versions of the usual Christmas fare.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:22pm
Sean in Bristol UK:

My three in no particular order is Wham "Last Christmas", Slade "Merry Christmas" and Chris Rea "Driving Home for Christmas". Chris, you have been driving home for Christmas for the last thirty years or so. Obviously you are lost, you need to invest in a satnav, pal!!

Avatar 9:29pm
adrian in mpls:

Hmmmm.....good question on those songs, Sean. (And I must confess, I really like the Wham and Slade songs!) I think mine have to be: "Do They Know It's Christmas?", "Jingle Bell Rock", and that absolutely horrible Chipmunks Christmas song -- that last one makes me stabby!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:30pm
Sean in Bristol UK:

I have an unlimited card with my local multiplex, as many films you can watch for $20 a month. I was scrapping the bottom of the barrel over the weekend, went to see "Annie", wasn't as grim as I thought it would be.

Are there other lyrics to this "Christmas Bells"? I recall it as somehow having nothing to do with Christmas. Or maybe I'm confusing it with a very similar song.

Got it! It's the refrain from the one that starts, "You go way too fast/If you don't slow down, you're going to crash." "Christmas Bells" reminds me of its refrain.
