@cbk Tom Waits eventually appears on this track! After 45 minutes or so...

@cbk Nice work on that classic Hondadog in your profile page. Did you fashion that sweet ride yourself?
Avatar 12:29am

@Ken The NSA knows exactly what we feel,, it's our misery that gives them so much pleasure in their work.

@Nate - i believe there is a few versions - one i played is without Waits

First time I heard the Waits version was on WFMU about 14 years ago...it kept going and going...blew me away.

yup cold , michigan here

Nate:

@Nick the first 20 minutes or so sound very similar. the version with Waits gradually keeps expanding, way longer... it really is something to hear all the way through.

My interest in Neil Young was enhanced by seeing the crazy 80's nuclear film he made with Devo.

@ nate: yes , got to listen to the Waits version - i think a headphone experience would be nice for that - full volume

I had no idea such a thing existed, but apparently Kenzo is correct. Hey hey, my my: www.youtube.com...

Mary Wing:

Is anyone else having problems with the stream? It was fine until the Kelompok Kampungan ended, now it's continuously buffering on both the 128 kbps and the pop-up player. Restarting my laptop has not made a difference.
Avatar 12:51am
Droll:

MW, I just "tuned in" at 128kbs MP3, sounds fine (when the YT tab with Devo Young isn't playing simultaneously).

Hiya Mary not working for me either now the 128K stream boo hoo

The Evil Thingâ„¢ has not reached the west coast, I guess.

@Mary Wing Thanks for the clue last night. I tracked down DJ Joe's archive with the three hour (Can't get no) Satisfaction show and listened to it earlier today.
  12:55am
Nate:

yep. stopped working for me at the same time
Avatar 12:55am
Droll:

MW, No, I'm here in Seattle. I blame Kenzo for making it work when it shouldn't. It's all backwards, as usual.
Avatar 12:57am
Mary Wing:

Cool, Whooda; did you download all those ebooks from Holly's links as well?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58am
Ike:

Rest assured Nick, you still have at least 1 listener getting a solid signal, via 91.1 (since I am close to the Oranges and using a stereo w/a dipole antenna). Can't get it when I leave my apt., sounds too distorted on MP3 Walkman & car stereo due to the transmitter probs, but I've got nowhere to go.
Avatar 12:58am
Droll:

I just heard a legal ID, so stream is working over here...

MW, I missed the last third of yesterday's show. You're moving up a day? Starting when?
Avatar 12:59am
Mary Wing:

Droll, I was referring to whatever Evil Thingâ„¢ is causing the streams to clusterfuck, not your particular Evilâ„¢ness.

@mary wing - stream still not working for you ?
Avatar 1:00am
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Are we all multitasking? I'm finishing up the archive for my Wednesday show (I obsessively create them all by hand rather than allow the robot's rough touch).
Avatar 1:00am
Whooda:

@Mary I have those sites safely bookmarked, much like a pretty home library stuffed with books that have never been read:)

If my stream were in sound it would sound like this cover of Crazy Horse.
Avatar 1:01am
Mary Wing:

No, Nate, got nothing here at all. The rebuffering status bar is not moving.
Avatar 1:02am

2 cans and string here still nada == wired ..

The stream during Therese's show was doing the same for me recently. Something about this time of night I guess.
Avatar 1:07am
Mary Wing:

I'm tethered to an ethernet cable; this should not be happening, even with the bad weather. Heard maybe 4 seconds of John Cooper Clarke just now.
Avatar 1:08am
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Mary: What address are you using, in what player? I've checked all 4 128K MP3 streams and they're all playing OK. You might just be having connectivity trouble on your end (ISP).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08am

not gonna bother with the old reliable Emerson radio and foil being that I was hearing the 91.1 was down also..

Mary, in these circumstances I try to change as little on my end as possible. No matter what's broken, it will magically fix itself (or not) like all the other software. It's more like fate than technology.

Don't need it because I have FM, but I just tested the pop-up player out of curiosity. It did not emit any audio. So that's weird.

  1:28am
Nick Name:

hey jeff, got Stan to check it here , and all is good
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28am
Ike:

Yeah, maybe NJ's Internet is taking a snow day. I'm getting slower than usual speeds here, "only" 8 Mbps down on Fios instead of 25. Still sufficient for anything short of uploading my entire consciousness into a singularity, but that's odd.
Avatar 1:31am
Jeff:

For those with problems... does this alternate URL for the 128K stream work?

relay0.wfmu.org...

I'm going to bet it does, because that's the case for me.
Avatar 1:32am

Avatar 1:48am

Avatar 1:49am

Droll, I think the blame may lie in the dozen other WiFi users in the area. Seven other connections besides mine. Thank you, Time Warner hotspot #*@#*!
Avatar 1:53am

Kenzo, You mean "still". I accept the fact I inspired the "Eject Seat" feature you're programming presently. I don't even mind you won't name it after me.
Avatar 1:53am
Jeff:

@pss: I am indeed whichever one I am.
Avatar 1:54am
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Droll, I actually suspected you were a distant descendant of Wile E. Coyote.
Avatar 1:55am
fleep:

It's like one long Mod Squad chase scene.
Avatar 1:57am
Jeff:

So... how are the streamy things working for everybody?

I swapped things around and made our usually-backup stream server the primary. I don't actually see anything really going wrong with the usually-primary server, but if the network in its neighborhood is getting kind of swirly, let's give it some time to calm down, shall we?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01am
pacific standard simon:

Actually, the stream's worked perfectly for me except for once when it quit and I had to hit play again. That might have been you switching the stream, or it might have been me multi-tasking.
Avatar 2:02am
Droll:

Kenzo, Indeed. I believe you come from the Roadrunner family, no?

Jeff, I see you like to live dangerously -- I'm a "don't fix it if it ain't broke" kinda guy. My stream has been incident-free since I tuned in over an hour ago.
Avatar 2:07am
Jeff:

It was actually intermittently broke for me in Jersey City, so that seemed worth a fix.

By "anything really going wrong" I meant aside from, well, the stream being funny for me.

Now, it may well be that the improvement I hear from switching to the backup is entirely related to its being a different network path away.
Avatar 2:11am
Droll:

Jeff, If a particular change made the stream funny, you should definitely try making that mod during 7SD. They could use a little technological assistance in that part of their show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13am
pacific standard simon:

Oh jeez, a Cat Stevens track that I actually like. You're freaking me out, Nick.
Avatar 2:16am
fleep:

Is 7SD supposed to be funny? I thought it was a way to make me go outside and do something else.
Avatar 2:17am
Jeff:

@Droll: The stream got funny annoying, not funny ha-ha. So re-breaking it that way would make no discernible difference in the case you describe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18am
pacific standard simon:

7SD is funny like the show comments are funny...
Avatar 2:20am
Droll:

Then it's unanimous: Neither the comments board nor 7SD is funny and nothing will help.

fleep, I also like to listen to Irwin's show to the end, flip off the machine, and go outside to do something before it gets dark.
