" . . . contains scenes of explicit eroticism" -- well why the heck didn't you just say so at the outset?
  3:11pm
Robert:

Duane's intro to Irwin gave me an idea: a mash-up of Joe Frank with Joe Franklin. Both of them use a lot of pauses, so it should be convenient to interdigitate each other's monologs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm
Irwin:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm
Caryn:

"Commissar" of an Illinois town? Rebellion "using computer science"? Hackers "squeezed like oranges"? "Short cyborgs" as a name for anything? The elimination of all descriptive phrases? Dialogue that "continues without pause (I'm assuming with no chapter breaks)? Pseydonym cribbed from either Burroughs or ER? Ooookaaayyyy...

"hackers wriggle"......mmmmm-mmmm-mmm.
  3:15pm
Robert:

Lately I've been the unpaid agent of Halton Adler Mann, an old journalist who's now blind, broke, and in a nursing home and with no keyboard, but still wants to get his stuff out there, so I xcribe it (even do a little copy editing) over the phone and e-mail it as submissions.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm
Caryn:

@Parq: I think you were supposed to guess that all the orgies and black masses would include the explicit eroticism before they even mentioned it.

Also, does the end of the plot summary mean that in the end, the heroes will be non-rogue Freemasons, who suddenly come out of nowhere to kick rogue Freemason ass and save the hackers?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm
Parq:

Dug that Field Mouse track, by the way.
  3:18pm
Robert:

Since he didn't have a private phone, it was fun the scene around him in the nursing home when Halton dictated his erotica to me. A lot more fun than his op-eds or poetry.
  3:18pm
berbo:

Why bother publishing? Send the script directly to Nicolas Cage!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm
Caryn:

I'm now suspecting that this is not so much a half-Dan Brown, half paranoid cyber thriller book, but the Freemason version of "Battlefield Earth". Let's tell a pulpy action story while hammily trying to lure people in. The whole Freemasons "regain the nobility of intent and action that has distinguished them in their historic and social path over the centuries" thing leads me to think so. If in one of the twists "Ermes the Mentor" turns out to be some major Freemason poobah, I will consider my theory proven correct.

I think the kicker is the "many facts narrated actually happened" bit. Really? Which bits would those be?
Avatar 3:30pm

Caryn, The wriggling and orange squeezing. Not necessarily in that order.
Avatar 3:31pm
Droll:

Caryn, We can safely assume all the sex scenes are fictional.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm
Caryn:

Of course, I don't live in Illinois, so for all I know, it's citizens have been been encouraged to rebel against mysterious cults and rapist/paedophile killer Commissars for years now. BTW, does "paedophile killer" mean he's a paedophile and a killer, or that he kills paedophiles? Enquiring minds want to know.
  3:33pm

It will be quick and intuitive as it unravels over its 500-page surge! Should I publish it?

Avatar 3:34pm

LL, It'll need it's own imprint.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm

@Laura: you should quickly and intuitively fight the urge to surge to your local printing press to publish it. It's clearly all part of the Confraternity's plot. Somehow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm
Parq:

Who had the big hit with "Wake Me Shake Me"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm
Irwin:

The Blues Project, produced by Tom Wilson, who also produced the Sweet Chariot series.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm
Caryn:

Also, I question calling the book "Hacker's Diary" if it consists only of non-stop dialogue. Surely that goes against the expectation of a diary format put forward by the title?
Avatar 3:46pm

I thought e-books and self-publishing were going to make it possible for the authors to skip middle-men like LL and go straight to their fans.

The Joe Frank piece had that quality he often does of sucking you in with plausibility, gradually taking you to either the absurd or the incredible. It was hilarious. This is one of those that could be mashed up with Joe Franklin as suggested above. It would be easier using this episode than the one where they were going to turn the Dominican Republic into a ski resort.
