Avatar 3:28pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- Irwin's like AustinPowers, rrg: He didn't see that coming

It has to be said, going into a Liberace bio based on a book written by his one-time drug-addicted boy toy, you shouldn't expect a detailed bio centered around his musical career. Bitchy drama is what you're getting.

@Caryn: On the plus side, they've reconstructed Liberace's house from photos very accurately, and Debbie Reynolds plays his elderly Polish mother. She knew Liberace and apparently his mother as well, so appro casting there.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm
Caryn:

@Matt: Michael Douglas knew Liberace through his dad since childhood, apparently, so appro casting there, too.
Actually, considering the people in the story, a better central character for a tv movie of his own would be Scott Thorson himself. I mean, after the Liberace relationship, he went on to squeal on the mob, end up in witness protection, get shot, be involved in various shady and bizarre dealings... The reviewer who said that the "BTC" epilogue text just telling us Thorson now lives in Reno was like making a movie about Lindsay Lohan's childhood and having the epilogue text be "LL now lives in LA" has it right. Kinda omitting a lot of stuff there.

@Caryn: Ahh, a connection on Michael's part as well! That's great. In any case the lack of Scott Thorson's post-Liberace story just means that we need to see Matt Damon in a sequel next year!

@Mike: well, Jerry Hall can get an orgasm just by getting warm, so I guess for her, minor things have an exaggerated result. Sure, a gold safety pin earring is punk, And I'm sure her morning toast is manna from heaven, and a flat tire is a precursor to armageddon.

I bet you can't smell the coffee roast today in front of that tavern like in the days of the picture!

I love contemporary country: it's extremely high quality power pop except the arrangements add slide guitar and fiddle. They also typically buy their songs from pro writers instead of making entire albums of filler.
Great stuff: pro songs, pro session cats, pro engineers... C&W is every bit as good as disco.

do they actually play instruments, droll? how quaint :P

- well - I self-identified as another lousy caucasian male playing bluesbased guitar - but did not associate w/ musicians - the drunkenpoets were my friends.- tho' I were neither a Poet nor a Drunk. It was a necessary phase in my literate/intellectual development, being from a little town & uneducated. If you must hang w/ them, you must - be my guest...it might take me a while to find someone here in NewHampsha who knew JoeFrank...
- FlowerTravelingBand! - something else JulianCope clued me into...

@Droll: I like it because it's mainstream rock that's better than most mainstream rock. And it's storytelling in song.

Oh look, Toby Keith's place serves "freedom fries"... I thought that foolishness went away about a decade ago?

Oh BTW Droll, while traveling to Maryland for family stuff last Friday I caught WPHT 1210 out of Philly playing the original "Can you give me an example?" spot more than once. Yes, some things just can't be killed.

- all true
- but then I smell a pernicious RupertMurdochFoxNews picture of the world being peddled in ContempoCountry - the Nashville Johnny Cash was giving the finger to, methinks
...maybe it seems quainter in NYC than it does here in smalltown NewHampsha (that's redundant but I'm making a point) - where's there's two whole radiostations of it, & postmenopausal coworkers who call that 'the normal radio' & *all* other music weird...

G, I must not be trying hard enough. If they're still running the ad there's still hope I can receive a cease-and-desist.

Find their advertising agency and send them links.

- used to think Country was Rock just 20 years behind
- which would put Kuntry now in its' fin-de-siecle Grunge phase
- altho' I'm not sure that formula holds anymore Post-Mod 21st Century...

I just caught up with the beginning of the comments, and man! Maxwell's is closing? The greatest venue on earth!

RRN63: You're thinking too much! Outside of the rare outlier, there has been nair anything worthwhile out of 'Nashville' since the mid 80s (there are some notable exceptions).

Thanks RRn63. Can't listen live too often these days. I'll check the archive.
