Hear that instrumental background? That's the signature Joe Raposo sound, the music director from 1969 to his death in '89. RIP, not just arranging the music and composing some songs, Joe Raposo really "created" the conceptual feel of the original SS.

that ike & tina article was, indeed, quite excellent. a rough issue, viewing art vs. the minuses of its creator (wiki "eric gill" for a toe-curling example). also appreciated the tweet urging folks to read the comments; aside from wfmu playlists and the av club, i avoid comments like ebola on toast.

Question of the day: Do ethical people need to disavow great art when they discover the artist behaved monstrously and does the art get an asterisk? Hard question.

Amanda Nazario:

Bye, everybody! Thank you for all your kindness in listening and chitchatting!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm
Amanda Nazario:

My answer to your QoD, Uncle Michael: the person should always have to get an asterisk. That goes for good things they do as well as bad things. Anyone in the public eye bears that burden, though I know many of them never asked for it. But the art itself, by its very nature, is free of that asterisk. It's a creation, larger than or at least separate from its creator.

Side note to Amanda: I'd like to send you a CD, if that's alright. The WFMU PO Box (c/o Amanda Nazario) OK?
