@Amanda: Sing along to an early Bee Gees record sometime!
Avatar 12:35pm
Matt from Springfield:

I do think you have a good handle on Elton's voice.
I was also thinking, that same range would probably work singing Robin's part along with Barry Gibb. Consider the Bee Gees for your singalong needs! ;)

I've always like Robert Gordon. Uptown is a totally cool LP.

I just call anything that needs a 45 nugget that plays at 45 rpm a 45.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm
Amanda:

And why shouldn't you?
  1:13pm
Carmichael:

Penelope!
  1:18pm
northguineahills:

..and anything that that is 7"s in diameter that doesn't need said nugget to be a 7", no matter the suggested rpm.

Checking in -- Hi, Amanda! I usually listen to the archive at work, but I'm on staycation this week, so I can actually listen live and, um, comment and everything.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm

Well that's very nice, Listener Si! Welcome to this side of the experience. It's good to have you.

Dave!

Matt from Springfield:

Dave E's ROCKIN it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm
Amanda:

@northguineahills -- in all seriousness, that is a totally fair way of naming the records. Nice use of "nugget," also
  1:25pm
Listener Si in SF:

The thing I like about these shows is that they sound like my own mix CDs (minus the 50s music I use) (plus a friendly, funny voice with the occasional story).
  1:26pm
Matt from Springfield:

Awesome, Joan Jett's buying you a drink for your birthday!
  1:27pm

Nugget = biscuit.

@glenn Happy Birthday to your cat!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm

Listener Si, these are nice compliments that I can appropriate as a birthday gift. Thank you!

Hey ndbob!
  1:31pm
Uncle Michael:

I love Cracker.
  1:31pm
Listener Si in SF:

@northguineahills Let's hope your biscuits are not hockey pucks!
  1:34pm
Uncle Michael:

The one time I saw Cracker live, they were opening for the Grateful Dead.
  1:37pm
Listener Si in SF:

I tuned in after "Friends of Mine" , so I'll have to wait until I listen to the archive to find out if it's a Buzzcocks cover.
  1:41pm
SteveL:

That's an astounding Buddy Holly cover.
  1:41pm
Listener Si in SF:

If Buddy Holly had lived, would he have jammed with Roky? I like to think the answer would be, "Yes."
  1:41pm
Matt from Springfield:

Tearing up from sentimentality!!

I was born upstate, in Syracuse, NY. It was April, but also snowing, unusually. My Mom didn't have to walk there in the snow, but just a couple months before then she walked a distance in the snow and ice to see a Springsteen concert.
  1:42pm
Matt from Springfield:

@SteveL: Did Buddy record that one? I thought they were just playing and singing in his style, but that's a full scale faithful tribute!
  1:43pm
Uncle Michael:

@Matt That's a pretty well-known Buddy tune.
  1:44pm
Uncle Michael:

Probably best known to many people via the Blondie version...
  1:47pm
Matt from Springfield:

Blondie was pretty good on early Rock n' Roll covers then. "Denis" being a takeoff on Randy and the Rainbows "Denise" is just one other example.
  1:48pm
Listener Si in SF:

Love the slap-happy acoustic music!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm
Amanda:

Very slappy, isn't it?
  1:49pm
Uncle Michael:

Slappy birthday, Amanda.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm
Amanda:

This is the slappiest day of my life
  1:52pm
Uncle Michael:

Are you the slappiest girl in the whole U.S.A.?
  1:52pm
Matt from Springfield:

Nina and Frederik - great duo! Great harmonies! Great arrangements!
That lesser known 60s folk duo can and will be added to my collection!
  1:53pm
Matt from Springfield:

Slap me, I must be dreaming!
  1:53pm
ndbob:

Happy birthday Amanda!
  1:53pm
Uncle Michael:

You know what I can never find...I can never find the comprehensive anthology of Arthur Alexander that HAS to exit.
