I do remember watching Kimba followed by the Hercules cartoon series when I got home from school. The American Kimba theme song and incidental music was different then. I think it was the same for Speed Racer

Meaning the music for Speed Racer in Japan was entirely different

Hi, Oleh, NARD!

Yes, the American Speed Racer series was also different. I watched that too.

I used to listen to my brother's Tomita albums in the 70s unaware of the Kimba connection.

No need, I saw 19 shows last month (15 dance, 4 concerts) I accept that there will be stuff I don't like. I'd actually be happy if I liked a third (no way to know which unless going) and it was more hit than miss by a lot

Awesome! I love that movie, and I'm sure Criterion has some wonderful supplemental treats. When I worked at a laserdisc distributor in the 90s, and I had a player at home, we could take home screeners to watch. I also had a discount for purchases. Most of them were Criterion releases. Still have a bunch.

Waterloo & Robinson represented Austria in the Eurovision song contest. They straddled the cringe line for me, but I had to share it.

I tend to partly disagree with "music as the most abstract art form." Partly because even though it is indeed quite abstract as in detached from a lot, it is very socially rooted, especially classical music. I think dance can be at once more universal (as embodied) and abstract when it strays from coded forms (classical) into geometry. Then again, Cage could come close to bypassing culture, though I guess the immediacy is lost

Oleh from Pittsburgh:

He’s great. Scriabin had synesthesia, which in this case was manifest in colors having a musical value. He composed incorporating his impression of actual tone colors. I am proud to say I’ve suffered from it too ; but my colors are connected to words nowadays and somewhat music . Music stretches out into abstracted shapes with some coloration. It’s a wwonderful neurologic issue to have
