It depends on whether there is snow cover. Last year this time, we'd alresady had snow for 3 weeks and things could get quite bright Right now the ground is barren and brown, and with the sun rising at 9:13 and setting at 15:13, it doesn't get very light.

That's exactly the issue. The sun doesn't get much above the horizon during those 6 hours, so if there is no snow to reflect light, it's quite dark. But on the other hand, we have amazing 5 hour sunsets in the summer, where the sun is just below the horizon but it doesn't get dark. So that beautiful just-after-sunset sky goes on and on.

Joining that with earlier Quebecois mention, we got "heavy" snow a couple of weeks ago. I heard report that it reached over an inch in places! Total chaos on the roads, bus service suspended. I think the laughs from my friends from Quebec helped melt the snow

there is a funny clip of people in france dealing with an inch of snow - they use small hand tools to try to get rid of it and the tv anchor talks about "chaos in the streets". as I grew up in quebec, it was indeed very funny to see.

It doesn't even take an inch. Buses are suspended at the first flurry (like I can see the color of the ground through the snow)
But the most impressive person was a friend from Romania. I often saw her running over ice and snow to catch a train, wearing flats, while I was having a hard time not slipping with very careful steps

I was talking with a friend about Dutch and Flemish yesterday. I thought they were the same but there are differences, including in how they pronounce things that are spelled the same (we have weird talks after dance or noise shows, she stated out loud that she hates Dutch but loves German, which got a few stares)

I guess they weren't listening when they were taught about Namibia. Personally, I find that Dutch sounds harsher than German, but less monotonous. But after living in Germany for 24 years and getting a passport after 20, I don't really think about the sound that often, and instead notice what's being said. Unless they are speaking Schwäbisch or some other awful dialect.
