I can't speak for the data. Which "skinheads" (whatever that means) are now right wing weirdos (whatever that means). But I do recall finding the punk scene much less rewarding around the time of the advent of, say, Black Flag.

"White supremacy" is a fairly specific, even narrow attribute. A bunch of lughead "kids" trying to insert themselves into a community does not White supremacy make. I really wish the news would not exploit their advantage of being able to report on every last racist insinuation.

I remember the one time I went to a hardcore show at a once well-kniwn nightclub in Trenton, NJ (City Gardens) that brought the skinheads in droves. The bands playing at the time were 7 Seconds and Sick Of It All, who were frequent headliners at that club. The energy in the place that night was intense. I got to see an incrdible exhibition of moshing mayhem when the skinheds in the audience performed what could be referred to as a "piledriver" maneuver, where they would clear a wide path from the back to just about a few feet before the stage, then a group of skinheads would form a line holding each other arm-in-arm, and then immediately rush towards the stage where they'd collide with the folks standing close to the stage.
