Avatar 🦇 4:28pm
Julie:

Hi A-B!
  4:36pm
A➡B:

Internet access was out for me for a couple of weeks due to tech issues with my laptop. Then we had 3 days of torrential rainstorms last week. Incoming rainfall was too much for our old sump pump, so our basemet ended up ankle-deep in water. We spent the whole weekend drying out everything that could be salvaged and throwing out what couldn't. Most of the houses in our neighborhood were spared, but there was one other house elsewhere that met the same fate, I discovered earlier today.
Avatar 🦇 4:37pm
Julie:

↳ A➡B @4:36
oh man I had that happen a couple years ago. There were cracks in the foundation so I had to get them fixed. Luckily I didn't have anything in the basement really. But the cleanup was expensive and a mess

  4:56pm
A➡B:

↳ love2laf @4:43
Everything's getting back to normal, but we're still cleaning up down there. We had the sump pump replaced with a more powerful one. basement is all dry now. The floor will have to be repainted eventually. And the room where my "office" is will look different when I move all the stuff from there back in. Funny thing is, we had our basement waterproofed years ago, apparently in vain. I fear the earthquake that happened last April might've formed fissures in the foundation. Also, I'd just started organizing the closet space where I keep tools & other houseware, and was about to do the same with my room down there.

Since you mention it, I'd just bought some vinyl from a garage sale last month and set them aside a tote until I found a place to keep them. Genius move on my part! Would've been better off putting them inside the tote, since there was still enough room inside for them.

↳ Song: "Have a Cigar" by "Pink Floyd"
"Harper's involvement with the recording arose from the dissatisfaction that Waters and David Gilmour felt with their own attempts to sing the lead vocal line. After trying it both separately and as a duet, with Harper still technically on the track singing vocals on the bridge (available on the 2011 Experience and Immersion editions of Wish You Were Here), they turned to Harper to sing lead, who was recording his album HQ at Abbey Road at the same time as Pink Floyd."
  5:27pm

David Gilmour didn't want to sing it, he thought it was too cynical. He had played on a Roy Harper album before and this was Harper repaying the gig.

I'm a fan of it all – I was privileged to see Nell Campbell do her cabaret act many decades ago, Ute Lemper doing a Weimar-tinged show, and the amazing (late 1990s?) Cabaret production with a completely compelling young fellow called Alan Cumming serving doomed menace as the Emcee.
