Hubby hates clear and coloured vinyl, as they often have more defects than black, but he's playing the whole album, not trying to select a track. I mean DJs are a huge demographic for vinyl buying, clear seems the stupidest ploy ever.

I bought my current pair of loudspeakers from a marvelous Berkeley stereo shop that is no longer in business, though the proprietor did go on to design a turntable that commands very high prices. One of the salespeople was a guy who knew Joe Henderson, so we listened to recordings on the shop's top system. Once I shared with him a CIMP recording featuring Marshall Allen. He was floored. He felt he could determine precisely where the mics had been placed. CIMP engineer Marc Rusch is brilliant.

In Chinese cooking, wok hei -- breath of the wok -- is the term for the special flavor that comes from particles of grease igniting around the edges of a really hot wok over a high flame. Joe's got mad wok hei.

This Garnett album is an example of a record I would have purchased sight unheard, just for the cover. It would not have fit on my ordinary playlist, but I would have kept it and cherished it for that very reason.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:35pm
Kim Sorise:

↳ Dean @8:33
It's a beautiful cover - but for me, it was purchased because it was on Muse in the. mid. 1970s.
I tend to be a label follower in records only - not in life.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:36pm
Kim Sorise:

↳ Dean @8:21
Very cool - What does CIMP mean?
  8:37pm
Dean:

Well, I'm a label follower and an engineer follower. Rusch, mentioned above, but also and especially Marc (another!) Aubort and Joanna Nickrenz. I don't care what they recorded; I only care that they recorded it.

Creative Improvised Music Projects, a project of the old Cadence magazine.

Yikes, a bit out of date, isn't it? Back in 1997, Immedia's turntable had a price tag of $15,000.

I have spent and will continue to spend more on a turntable than a car. Cars are fungible. A Porsche is a glorified VW. But good turntables are simply mind-blowingly amazing.
