Nope-went to the NYC Passport office today, the office was CLOSED (on a random Monday?!?!). Schlepped in with my luggage, then back to Joisey.
I do have an appointment Wednesday with the Philly Passport office, and a flight out of Philly Wednesday night. Best I could do. (Tempted to go hear Alan Broadbent in Manhattan tonight as a booby prize-he's great-but I'm pretty beat and beaten down).

I'll post my tale again for those who may be confused by the comments on this (apologies if you've already read it-just skip past);
Wanna hear a sad tale? Yesterday my family was to fly to Sweden, Copenhagen, and Poland. I had family in those places years back, wanted to check them out.
Passport was good until September, knew I'd need to renew it, but figured it could be after the trip (If something expires on a certain date, it is good before that date, no?)
Well, no, it turns out. European rules are the passport needs at least 3 months before expiration. So, my family left without me. I'm hoping an early Monday morning visit to the NYC passport office (with tears in my eyes), will get me a passport quickly so I can join them with a Monday night flight. (Family is there already, walking around Gothenburg).
(I do get to listen to more Drummer Stream, bright side...)
(Family is now in Gothenburg, Sweden...just not me)
(Update-did drag myself to the Manhattan offifce today, it was closed for some obsure Federal Reason. Now set for the Philly office on Wednesday, flight Wednesday night).

Stalling walking the pooches-Laila is going a bit stir crazy in the house, but she doesn't like the heat (The Bernese Mountain Dog part of Bernadoodle-thick black fur. Used to be like that when I first started buying jazz-there were a lot of historical albums being reissued as Twofers-I'd see the Twofer in the used bins, and sometimes the original Blue Note of one of the 2 albums. I generally bought the Two-fer (more music, less cost), but later realized it might not have been the best strategy...

Dean:

I just don't think that the vinyl per se is worth the cost. A crappy LP -- say, a beat-up America's Greatest Hits -- sounds utterly wonderful on a good 'table. I'm good with that.

Phase 1 was a few years ago. Phase 2 awaits capacity. Subchassis, maybe the bearing (which I think I might already have upgraded), swap out my old Ekos for the new one...

In any event, phase 1 was amazing. New Lingo, new Trampolin, new cartridge (Kandid). That America album never sounded better!

I think I likely did that as well (the Lingo I had died, and once I took it for replacement, went with the other upgrades at the time).

I adore Murray. I've seen him a handful of times, once at Yoshi's with James Carter. Curiously, Carter was the purveyor of tasteful bombast, and Murray seemed almost Zen-like. It was a beautiful show.

Lake and Jarman in a bookstore-sounds heavenly!
Did get to see Lake in his own groups and in the World Saxaphone Quartet (think he lived not too far from me in Joisey, he was fairly regular in one of the not-to-plentiful Joisey Jazz Joints).

Very jealous of the house/apartment concerts. I do have one friend who does them once a year (the same Philly friend), usually Nels Cline is one of the performers, in whatever unit he's featuring at the time.

The two venues I try to frequent are 1) a N. Berkeley house whose resident knows everybody, or so it seems; and 2) Phil in Oakland, who is a vegan caterer, an amazing chef, and a former shakuhachi player (worked with Maybe Monday, Kent Carter, etc.). Both host world-class folks. It's amazing.
