The kids love records again! (And tapes.) I think a couple generations of only owning "digital downloads" that were suddenly wiped out when iTunes re-negotiates their terms of service has made them want the real deal again.

My old friend, the late WFMU DJ Bob Rixon aka Rix used to play some classical music among other things. He was a great poet too.

There are too many good things in this world! Someone needs to make a WFMU Newsletter than just highlights a handful of excellent shows from the archive, and why you should listen. I'm sure that newsletter would get a lot of subscribers!

Don't steal this idea, but I've been making "zinecasts" lately. 'Zines that highlight a show I did from the past that I'm particularly fond of, with notes about it, etc. I was thinking the other day I should collect some cool interviews into one. Some of those old shows deserve another listen.

Ooh, must check him out. I'm a huge fan of Claudio Arrau, the Chilean pianist. I adore Vladimir Horowitz, especially when he played Scriabin.

I grew up spinning the radio dial all over. There was a great classical station in the NYC area, WNCN. That and public station WLIB also played some classical music. Later on I listened to WQXR. They used to have some great specials like young artists showcase. They even had a feature that had a famous classical or popular melody that would be performed in such a way that it was disguised and an audience member had to guess what the original piece was. I got a few of those right, not too many. Just expose yourself to a little at a time and you'll learn a lot that way.

I love stories like this! As a kid I used to imagine living in a less-rural place. Most of the radio I could get was country music or classic rock. Even in the 90's, everyone I knew was listening to the station that played 60's and 70's "AOR."
