If I may expound :
⦿Sun in ♊︎Gemini, Year of Metal 🐍Snake
Born: Robert Allen Zimmerman, May 24, 1941, Duluth, Minnesota, US
When to just say an Artist is the Greatest & Most Significant Songwriter of All Time
- is in fact reductive of his overall relevance.
BobDylan embodies both the entire History & Tradition of Folk Music
- & yet manifests the original composing self-sufficient Songwriter
...both the living archetype & model of the ever-changing & stylistically adapting Transforming Creative
...the very paragon of the protean self-mythologized & created Pop Identity Artist in fact
- & yet the enduring Voice of Conscience & Spiritual Depth & Moral Compass carried across the decades & even centuries - via the immemorial arts & communications of the Common People - back as far & as deep as even Scripture
...both psychological Rebellion in the face of all the great & petty Social Imperialisms & Vampires feeding off our Individualities - with all the gifts & abilities of thought, articulation, style & substance we can muster & in any way master
- & Devotion to a higher Code of Meaning & Purpose
- as a Human Species with conceptions of Art, Spirituality & ultimate Destiny.
As Springsteen said, what Elvis did for our Bodies, Dylan did for our Minds.
Many Entertain ...fewer are true Shamans who venture into frontiers & return with Tools for our very Survival - which we subsequently merge with & actually become & then presume as if they had always been.
You could say he has mattered.

I attended a Neil show in the mid-late 90s at the Kilowatt Club in SF. This followed the premiere of film “Dead Man” which took place at the Castro Theater earlier that same night. I was lucky to get into this surprise show. Jim Jarmusch (sp?) was there in the crowd, no surprise since he was the director of the movie. Jeff Tweedy was also present I literally ran into him. Embarrassed, it took me a second to realize who he was. I was starstruck. Weird show all around. Music was very odd. It was a lot like the film soundtrack...memorable evening.

He snuck into a Dylan session with a guitar, hoping to get on one of the cuts. Then Mike Bloomfield showed up, and Kooper realized he shouldn't even open up his guitar case. He jumped on the keys instead. Great move.

Look for Al Kooper's story of how he came to be playing keyboards on that session. He showed up with a guitar, initially, until Mike Bloomfield came in with Bob out of the rain, wiped off his guitar and plugged in. Al unplugged and went over to sit at the piano. He tells it with a lot more color. ;)

I am a Dead lover who didn’t mind calling them out when they sucked, which was often. Still, when they toured with Dylan, they actually practiced. Imagine?!! The sound checks included a plethora of Dylan material and one Gene Clarke song, “French Girl” as well as Paul Simons’ “Boy in a Bubble.” Of course they did not do most of them at the show. Still, the GD who were famous for not rising to the occasion knew that had to bring it for Bob.
