I am reminded of my first semester Torts class in law school 23 years ago. "We do not want individuals cathecting upon personal property." So proclaimed the sublime Prof. Rachel Moran during a lecture about infliction of emotional distress. The class was unsettled by the verb she used, but I knew exactly what she meant. The law is reluctant to compensate for damage to objects we claim to love. For example, my turntable and amplifiers.

They've got a lot of records. Early stuff sorta power pop/new romantic. 90s and forward more psychedelic and jammy. Starfish is great, Blurred Crusade, Priest=Aura, Forget Yourself. The Hypnogogue was pretty great last year, though you'll want the liner notes too cos it's a concept album

My clearest recollection of a The Church moment was from standing in a beloved Orange County record store, Beggar's Banquet (famous for having been an early target by Bruce "The Boss" Springsteen's legal campaign against bootleggers). The Church's biggest hit was playing, and I was then willing to admit privately an attraction to it.

Liner notes and concept albums: Yes, Tales From Topographic Oceans. I didn't get Jon Anderson's notes, so I read the Paramahansa Yogananda's autobiography. Can't say I got it then, either.
