she plays etienne and cool on your island fairly often live. many of the other have been played live as one-offs.

frankly, i think she should assemble the old band and tour the whole album in the harder style the band actually was before the label got a hold of the band and tried to make tori a pop hit...

Handy Haversack:

Hello, Julie, Dark Ones. Just back from the vet with Voltron. Buses are fun.
  4:10pm
hunterfelt:

The bootleg version of "Extraordinary Machine" is based on sessions with Jon Brion. Fans loved them and clamored for their official release. Instead, Apple re-recorded it with Mike Elizondo, who came from a more hip-hop background, and the new versions were controversial. I don't particularly like either version, not being a Jon Brion fan.

  4:11pm
Curtis:

Yes. He mixed it, then they rerecorded and remixed, but the record company still 'didn't hear a single' so they brought in someone else that rerecorded once again
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:11pm
Handy Haversack:

Well, he's eighteen, that's for sure. Gotta get his blood and urine tested and see whether his passing out yesterday was a stroke or just old cat passing out. Whether he needs seizure meds, kidney meds, or nothing.

At least it's expensive. And stressful.

hey, Handy! Voltron is 18? wow!
when Bella was up in age (only 15 or 16), she had a stroke and was acting drunk for a few days. it left her partially deaf, the poor girl. best wishes to Voltron (and you and K8, too.).
  4:17pm
hunterfelt:

↳ Curtis @4:11
Yeah, Elizondo was coming straight off of Eminem's (very terrible) "Encore" album, hence all the toybox effects and such. "The Idler Wheel" was an improvement, I think, and then "Fetch The Bolt Cutters" came out and that was a masterpiece, her best since "Tidal."

Thanks, Chris, woj. I'm hoping it was just syncope related to a hairball, like vasovagus, not a stroke or a seizure. His heart sounded good and BP wasn't too high, so hopefully we can get by without anything too major.

It does get expensive when they age-our last pooch, Ozzie (we put him to sleep at age 15 this past November), had, by the end, cataracts, hearing loss, Doggie Dimensia, pancreatic disease, and Canine Cushings disease, was on multiple medications a day, had to see a Vet Internist (he was too complicated for our regular vet), and those bills...He was a doll, though!

Voltron's our last uninsured pet, too. Though I'm not sure insurance would help much with old-age maintenance. It sure helped with Bagpipe's cancer, which would have been a staggeringly expensive instead of just shockingly expensive undertaking without it.

Honestly, it was better than our human insurance.

Thanks, Matt!

Sending kittylove Voltron's way, Handy.

We've got Pets Best insurance on our Catman. We had him on the "Wellness" plan too, and they paid out the claim for his last visit pretty quickly — but I did the math and it was $312 in premiums, and they only paid out $200 on his wellness visit. So we just nixed the wellness plan and we're going to put the money into a bucket for his once-a-year $750 vet visit.

We keep him on the illness plan with a $1K deductible, and covering 90%. It's $25.80 a month and will only matter if he gets REAL sick... but if he gets real sick, we'll be glad to have the help to keep his goofy butt healthy and happy.

Yeah, I have done lots of pet insurance math lately! The "kittens" are on a 70% coverage with a $500 deductible at $25/mo., which I went for rather than the trupanion, which is 90% but at $500 deductible would have been more like $50/month. It's tempting because a lot of places will precredit Trupanion, so you never have to pay it all out of pocket. But the maths seemed to make sense as I was back-of-enveloping.

We're already having puppy thoughts. What's WRONG with us?!

Yes, like I said, at both our regular vet and the animal hospital where Bagpipe had his surgery, the office filed the claim with Trupanion and got a quote from them so we had to pay only the difference. We never had to wait for them to pay a claim because we were only ever charged the noncovered part of the bill.

That's amazing. Sounds better than Pets Best, in fact.

Unfortunately our vet in Bensonhurst won't take direct payment from *any* pet insurance, so it'll always be a "pay up front / get reimbursed later" kinda thing. But that's what credit cards are for. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

And honestly our vet is great, and they're only a 15 minute drive. Helpful, as Catman loathes being in the car. And he's very vocal about it.

Catman screeches like an unholy eldritch abomination when he's even just in a cat carrier. I couldn't in good conscience put other people through that when they're already suffering the trials of the Metropolitan Transit Authority.

pwrmnstr and I agreed that should we ever need euthanasia services (not for Catman, obviously, because he's going to live forever and ever!), we are going to spring for the $500 in-home service. Control the environment. Not add extra stress to a living being's end of life moment.

Hobbes is loyal!

Catman is a slutty loverboy. He indiscriminately treats everyone like his best friend. If you have a lap and will sit still, he'll fall asleep on / drool on you.

Gabapentin knocks him out, and he'll be so sleepy we think he'll make it to the vet with no issue... until the cat carrier starts moving. Halfway through our building lobby, he starts wailing like a baritone banshee — loud enough to split eardrums.

But the gabapentin *does* keep him better-behaved at the vet's office, so it's worthwhile.
