Hope it's not too incendiary to say this, but I don't know why The Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame as an institution even means anything to anyone other than its investors. Inclusion there doesn't really validate artists' merit. It's as if the people at Chuck E. Cheese need to say whether you're okay or not. Who cares? Not exactly an academy.

It's a commercial enterprise, a fun tourist stop if you happen to be in Cleveland (and heaven knows there's not much else there). Decisions likely take into account how much of a tourist draw an artist/group is...the US was not big Fairport territory, then, it sure ain't a draw now.

@StringOfPerils. True that! I give no credence to the R&R Hall either. If I were a millionaire(billionaire, actually. Inflation!), I would start my own pop/rock museum. My intro to Fairport Convention was a friend in high school, who shared his brother's copy of Babacombe Lee with me, and the public library's copy of Fairport Chronicles.

One would have to be brave to have attended Altamont, but even braver to have then attended the Stones' next show.

Maybe this is common knowledge, but I didn't know it; I just wondered. Maybe it's even true.> Fairport Convention, the name, can trace its origins to friends Ashley Hutchings and Simon Nicol who rehearsed together in a house called 'Fairport' in Muswell Hill, where Nicol's father was a local MD.

@StringOFperils Thompson's memoir corroborates that the band was named after the house Fairport, "a large mock Tudor house ... on Fortis Green" owned by Simon Nicol's family, which did also house his father's medical practice. "Si tu dois partir" = "If you must go," or so I think.

@coelacanth…don’t think I have that symbol in your name. Thanks for pointing out Garden Party. I was racking my brain.

Thank Dean. it kind of makes sense for the theme of garden party, and a subtle reference as the lyrics have; but then, maybe it's just coincidence.

There needs to be a part 2 of this show.

hi Wendy! it's okay it's not really part of the name!

Dean:

I suspect it's just coincidence and musical convention. "Garden Party" was Rick Nelson's middle finger song to the clods who booed him at MSG.

That earlier track, in French, was a cover of Dylan's If You Gotta Go (I"m sure that's been mentioned, but just backtracked the comments. Have to pack for a weekend wedding upstate NY, but been listening.
