@5:10 chris in the redwoods: I also took the "meh" route, but yes, "Pet Sounds" was a revelation for me when I was 17 or so and sounded so different to the surf stuff I had heard from Beach Boys when considerably younger. What rekindled my interest towards them was later when I discovered the (then mostly unreleased) 'SMiLE!' recordings.

@ the minimum rate of $10/month - one is only able to credit 12 Programs - when I'd like to acknowledge maybe three (?) Xs as many... dreamyandseedy: yeah! Lynda Barry is such an outstanding artist and teacher. It was a class called "Writing the Unthinkable" and she was showing us how "images" (her central concept about creativity) are timeless and ageless. SMiLe was conceived when Brian Wilson and Van Dyke Parks were very young but they were elders when it was finally performed—yet the "images" (that may be expressed in any medium) were as fresh as they had ever been.

@7:02 Julie: as for death of spring - it's April and suddenly there's so much snow outside it's unbelievable, I wonder if I'll manage to open my front door...

Today's show was so heavy on the Dreampop/Shoegaze. Lends an air of serenity for this overcast day. And I'm left feeling all blissed out over it. Thanx for such an incredible set, Julie!
