B R M:

@Andres- it is a weird college basketball pool where all 64 teams are put into buckets of 8 (Bucket 1 has 8 teams, 2 has 8 teams etc) and you can either bet on which group will win (bet on group 1) or do a perfecta (i.e. 3 to win, 1 to come in second place so 3-1).

I had two perfectas, one where North Carolina group wins and Kansas group comes in 2nd, and one where Kansas group wins and North Carolina comes in 2nd, so I got lucky and they both made the final, plus I bet on Kansas group to win straight up AND bet on North Carolina's group to win, so I win two bets either way. Everyone else in the pool bet on other groups, some bet the same groups for more or less money, etc and you split the pot across how much was bet on straight wins (smaller) vs perfectas (larger).

Anyway. complicated to explain but... either way, I am donating the money to a non-profit I am fundraising for so go Kansas, because the non-profit would get $300 vs $240.

*whew*

Ocean is so distinctive, i remember clearly when I saw the Velvets perform it in 1969. Mo's drumming roared and swelled in the club.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28pm

Honestly, I've never heard the Lou version of this song. I'm only familiar with the entire VU doing it. But, this is a fab opportunity to hear a new version. So much more dynamic in the vocal delivery.

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:29pm
B R M:

@Andres - it is a more fun way to bet on/ care about the college basketball tournament because your bracket doesn't matter when people lose early, you still have teams in the groups/buckets to root for, etc.

It wasn't all that, they poshed up the bar to be a Brit pub, but it had a decent sound system, and a small stage for small bands to play as well.

technically, Serbian and Croatian are the same spoken language (trying telling them that), but the Serbs use the Cyrillic alphabet, and the Croats, Latin. Serbs tend to be Eastern Orthodox, Croats, Catholic. Legacy of the changing borders of the Ottoman and Hapsburg Empires...

Wikipedia says:

The use of the country name "Macedonia" was disputed between Greece and the Republic of Macedonia (now North Macedonia) between 1991 and 2019. The dispute was a source of instability in the Western Balkans for 25 years. It was resolved through negotiations between Athens and Skopje, mediated by the United Nations, resulting in the Prespa agreement, which was signed on 17 June 2018. Pertinent to its background is an early 20th-century multifaceted dispute and armed conflict that formed part of the background to the Balkan Wars. The specific naming dispute, although an existing issue in Yugoslav–Greek relations since World War II, was reignited after the breakup of Yugoslavia and the newly-gained independence of the former Socialist Republic of Macedonia in 1991. Since then, it was an ongoing issue in bilateral and international relations until it was settled with the Prespa agreement in June 2018, the subsequent ratification by the Macedonian and Greek parliaments in late 2018 and early 2019 respectively, and the official renaming of Macedonia to North Macedonia in February 2019.

Just now tuning in...wanted everyone to know that Felix Cavaliere has written a memoir called MEMOIR OF A RASCAL. It is very good sdo far despite some punctuation errors and some factual errors, such as stating LOS LOBOS was a band from Spain who had hit in the 60s called BLACK IS BLACK, which we all know was by LOS BRAVOS and that David Crosby was NOT a member of Buffalo Springfield as he writes! I am about a third of the way through the book so far. I am enjoying it but it needed better editing.
