Bellamy's original Pledge read: I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. The Pledge was supposed to be quick and to the point. Bellamy designed it to be recited in 15 seconds. As a socialist, he had initially also considered using the words equality and fraternity but decided against it, knowing that the state superintendents of education on his committee were against equality for women and African Americans.

	10:39am Jeff Golick: That Summer of Soul movie is at least in theaters, if that's something you're comfortable doing, @hyde (and assuming it arrives at a theater close enough to you to make it possible).
	🥁 10:40am Listener Gregory: @hyde, maybe, but who knows if Hulu or Peacock or whatever will still be in business, in the same form, 5 years from now? Network TV shows that you couldn't see at all became available on Netflix... then disappeared and now are returning to the networks' streaming services. It all seems pretty fluid (in the long run).

	🥁 10:44am hyde: @LG in the DVD era, you could get all those shows on disc and Netflix was a one stop shop of all of it! now it's multiple rivers of corporate services you need to subscribe to. i'll pass

	🥁 10:49am Listener Gregory: @hyde, all that's true, but there's still plenty to see with one or two services. I have Netflix DVDs still, and that has a lot of things that are hard to find in streaming form. But I don't assume that I'll get to see everything I want. Such is life!
	🥁 10:49am DJpeterDE: FWIW, even before vaccines, movie theaters were safer than restaurants: everyone facing the same way, not talking, in a big space.
	🥁 10:50am DJpeterDE: @LG, @Hyde: I can't see everything that I want on the few services I do have so I don't get too bothered about stuff I can't see on other services! (That doesn't seem to apply to my music consumption, though.)

	10:57am Jeff Golick: I think there is very little interest in back catalog, from streaming services. It's largely just chum to them, something to keep folks occupied. What they're all trying to do is create "original" "content," something that captures "buzz" and makes people sign up for their particular service.
	🥁 10:58am doctorjazz: It's true, this walling of content sucks. On the other hand, I don't have time to get to music, videos, reading I'd like to get to as it is.
	🥁 10:59am Listener Gregory: Have to say I was 99% unaware of Burton Greene until now. Somehow he was off the radar when I was first starting to explore this music.
	🥁 11:00am DJpeterDE: But in other news, it looks like vinyl is overtaking CD for physical releases? And in my record store trip last weekend, overheard a young kid saying, "ooh, I think i'll like this LP because it's 'ROCK' and I like 'ROCK'" (all the 50 year olds in the store died a little bit inside)
	🥁 11:00am hyde: @JG yep. i noticed yesterday on Prime (the one sub i have because i don't pay for it) that tons of old kung fu, giallo and other genre stuff i had on my watchlist is now no longer streaming for free. they just up and dropped the licences for hundreds of titles all at once
	11:00am Jeff Golick: After the ESP stuff, he doesn't really show up on any significant American labels again. Mostly small European outlets.

What they're all trying to do is create "original" "content," something that captures "buzz" and makes people sign up for their particular service.
