Well, us finns, we didn't make it footie-wise this year. But that's rather irrelevant now - there's a scare as the footie tourists have brought the delta variant of covid-19 with them on return to Finland. Things were looking better, and might get worse again...

well, thanks to this show I have started to appreciate Pale Saints' Slow Buildings much more - it's quite good, it's just that Ian Masters isn't there. In Ribbons is my favorite cos both both Meriel & Ian are there with their voices and songwriting. Both turned to experimental music post-Pale Saints btw.

Avatar 4:11pm
Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

@4:07 Ryansterlingvirtue: comforts of madness is glorious too, I was glad to find the original vinyl affordably (15 euros) from Finland. Still, In Ribbons is my favorite, i love how their voices blend and the songwriting is sooo good. A pity a vinyl of In Ribbons is completely out of my price range. Oh well, early 90s vinyl is madly expensive nowadays.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm

Yes, I got the COM at rough trade in NYC before they moved. I'd like to get the other two. Now I know it might be awhile lol
Avatar 4:15pm

plus, I like to torture myself with the regret of not buying the Pale Saints' vinyls back in 2003-200? when that sort of music was so unfashionable and you could get the records for like Β£3 from a certain Notting Hill shop (they had a box dedicated to 4AD stuff, that's where I got all my Lush albums)

I wouldn't worry, Phillippe (spoken by a non-parent haha). Travis and his team do everything by the book. They also have foam pits, so you can get crazy without the risk.

I listened to a lot of WFMU in the 90s. Very lucky I lived in the area
Avatar 4:32pm
Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

@4:28 C.S.: feels like it has become a topic only recently. I was one of the unfortunate fools, who were being bullied and who resorted to bullying. No, I am anything but proud of that. And yes, I feel a lot of resentment towards the people who made every school day hell. But I assume there are lots of people who have had it much worse.

Avatar 4:37pm

@Julie And schools do nothing about it, though they claim to be "zero tolerance". I'll never miss being a child. Adulthood rules!
Avatar 4:38pm
Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

@4:33 Julie: SAME. Once I was smoking a ciggie at night like 50 metres from our yard, where there was a school yard, and in the dark two bullies were there, we noticed each other. And then:RUN. I managed to get home and shut the door. They were driving back and forth in front of our door. I had no social life to begin with but that really pissed me off, that I can't even go tour yard, in the middle of nowhere. There's two people in the silent night and they are my bullies (who btw did not even live anywhere near).

I wonder if the majority of the former Bully in Chief followers deified him because they were bullied in the past and saw him as standing up against the other bullies, or if they were bullies in the past and found a kindred spirit. As a former bully target I despised him for it

I guess my frustration comes in seeing my "alternative" friends who I know are straight going to pride like it's just another cool place to show your face. @Phillippe I didn't remember the name until I saw the moving ramp clip. You never forget the first time you see someone break both legs landing in the standing position. I doubt T-man would invite people over to do that stuff though, I'd imagine he has a private warehouse & dirt track.

I was glad to get high school over with. Nut-heads wiping spit on my glasses constantly, some girl calling me "Dirty Diapers" in marching band, etc. Bullying continues there to this day. My nieces transferred to HS in a neighboring town because no one in the administration lifted a finger to stop it. The heck with those people!

Was knee-deep in a 14 year battle to save a National Register District that a developer nominated just so he could get historic tax credits...but then he planned to demolish the district later on. I've tried to expose lies and deception but money talks and it's easier for local politicians to throw me under the bus than to stand up for what's right. Just an odd situation. Don't even really understand 'fitting in' @ school.
This whole edifice of the image of it being noble & a great time in people's lives. Who *are* these people ?!?
Both socially - just take kids & throw them into this full-time landfill of other kids & harried adults (teachers). As much to relieve parents from actually being in their offsprings' lives as anything else...
& educationally - I can see it teaches some basics against all odds - but it does so little to prepare young people for what is actually going to happen to them.
& no one gives a shit about you.

@CS--if 60 Minutes actually portrayed things like that, they were inaccurate and irresponsible. Hate would not be what babies are experiencing. People care because Gender & Sexuality are so powerful for defining Identity & Roles in Society - *as it has been defined*. Even more fundamentally than Race I think. This is a really important evolutionary challenge for us - I really do believe. Sexual Liberation is really @ the roots of a lot of our Psychology.
Personally - I thot I was all Liberal & tolerant. Then one day (some time ago) - I was @ a Party with a Queer friend - he's in his cups a bit - & starts flouncing around - sitting on me - nothing serious, you know. & I reacted badly with cliched insults & anger. & I'm like - wait a minute: *I'm* not Homophobic ! Oh. Aren't you ?! So - like Racism - it's all ignorance & things deeply implanted by programming. The answer is losing the Ignorance - & having some actual experience with other human beings. As human beings. I'm encouraged that the Overton Window on the Programming in Society appears to be shifting.
...Baby hate. Hm. Well - Humans are so complex as individuals & socially. I do think there's a tendency that if you feel threatened - & Ideas & Identity for Humans matter as much there as actual physical threat - you invoke the Differences. Yerknow - yer angry @ a Woman, she's not an Asshole, she's a Bitch. Right ? It really has nothing to do with her being a Woman...
  6:42pm

but we don't know WHY exactly they got that sense of pleasure, right? And that does not mean they hate things that are unfamiliar or different. I believe the research shows that we are all (adults and non-adults) drawn to the familiar and similar
