This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

Games goes for up to 5 days, and last match ended in a draw. Very zen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:13pm
Little Danny:

Hey Evan, friends!
Avatar 7:14pm
Flash Strap:

this show covers 1975&6 basically - lotta soft-funk in the mix. Synths are just around the corner but not real ubiquitous yet as far as MP2000 is concerned (JJ Perrey's moog albums notwithstanding).
🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:14pm
WR:

some of those covers are very distinctive for library recordings.
Avatar 7:14pm
Flash Strap:

Hi LD!
Avatar 7:18pm
Flash Strap:

@WR: MP2000 is all over the map as far as that goes, the early LPs largely pretty generic but much more designed as it goes on. some of these look like absolute shit imo and others are unforgettable!

other library catalogues have great art however, such as L'Illustration Musicale. Then there's KPM which pretty much comes in two styles, red or green
Avatar 7:20pm
Flash Strap:

Framond (aka Camille Sauvage) on fire for this LP, great ondioline sounds as ever! worst cover art of the night though, possibly
Avatar 7:26pm
Flash Strap:

here's a picture of our man, Maestro Sauvage: img.discogs.com...
Avatar 7:31pm
Flash Strap:

an artist with the ondioline, seriously
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31pm
Little Danny:

That track was awesome. I dug the Miles Davis-ian trumpet.
Avatar 7:32pm
Flash Strap:

imagine bitches brew with a prominent ondioline!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:34pm
Little Danny:

Totally!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:43pm
Little Danny:

Wow, this too is fantastic.
Avatar 7:44pm
Flash Strap:

he's such an odd and arresting arranger imo, always surprising
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:46pm
Little Danny:

Yeah, some super-interesting arrangements I've heard thusfar already.

Your library omnibus shows always overwhelm me in the best possible way. So much great stuff, so little I know or, really, have any references for.
Avatar 7:49pm
Flash Strap:

That's a big part of why i do them – i feel the same way and they help me develop some understanding as I feel my way through putting the show together
Avatar 7:50pm
Flash Strap:

This Ordonez record also released in its home country (?) of Ecuador with the title "Ballet Ecuatoriano"
Avatar 7:50pm
Flash Strap:

great-sounding band!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:52pm
doctorjazz:

Hi Flash!
Avatar 7:53pm
Flash Strap:

Hi Doc!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:53pm
Little Danny:

Man I can totally relate to that.

It's also funny 'cause all those cheap easy-funk library CD comps that came out in the '90s and aughts really flattened my perception of library music for a number of years. No one's fault.

Anyway, you're doing that whole world justice.
Avatar 7:55pm
Flash Strap:

Brother that's about the best thing anybody could have said to me tonight, thank you

WR:

the map on the cover of La Régionalisation looks like France but I associate Basque and Catalan with Spain. am i missing something?
Avatar 8:02pm
Flash Strap:

i think they're borderline
Avatar 8:03pm
Flash Strap:

most of the rest of it is French regional music but I find it very boring so I naturally honed in on the Basque and Catalan stuff, which is cool
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:06pm
Shaw:

Soundin' great tonight!
Avatar 8:08pm

Hi Shaw! thanks pal!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:29pm

another bizarre underscore, you can still hear the lead guitar, which sounds like it's been badly rubbed out with a hard pink eraser

Avatar 9:12pm
Flash Strap:

after this Klaxon, one of my all-time favorite Sauvage/Framond tracks
Avatar 9:13pm
Flash Strap:

not short-shrift Klaxon here, a top-tier discovery while compiling the show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13pm
Little Danny:

Wow, so good. Were these originally separate tracks on the LP?
Avatar 9:14pm
Flash Strap:

yeah, back to back but separate. similar situation to the underscore thing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:16pm
Little Danny:

Unrelated, sorta: you must occasionally hear snippets of library music you recognize when you sit down to watch '60s/'70s movies,tv shows, etc.
Avatar 9:17pm
Flash Strap:

man this track is playing with weird glitches, i always have trouble with this track for some reason
Avatar 9:17pm

it doesn't happen all that often, but every time I watch The Prisoner
Avatar 9:18pm

The Prisoner is so great... I need to get back into it and watch the last 10 or so
Avatar 9:24pm
Flash Strap:

between the cover/title of this and the last two tracks, I wonder if Sauvage was getting into The Temptations around this time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24pm
Little Danny:

Incredible Afrofunk groove. Unexpectedly raw instrumentation, too.
Avatar 9:25pm
Flash Strap:

rare for him to be so funky but so cool to hear what he brings to it
Avatar 9:27pm
