	7:27pm Flash Strap: @LD: haha wow - it basically began life as a crazy character name for a movie i was improvising while on acid, representing the character's sadism and adventurism. used it as a pseudonym when first getting involved with online. always bemused that it's stuck to me for whatever reason

	7:29pm slugluv1313: although as much as i adore Max Ernst's art, i gotta admit that i love Leonora Carrington's and Dorothea Tanning's creations even more :)

	7:31pm Flash Strap: @slugluv: i think Ernst is pretty hard to top visually but Leonora Carrington is one of my very most favorite artists & her writings represent some of the finest surrealism has to offer. some of the best short fiction ever written imo. & her novel is a masterpiece. a true genius, a guiding light

	7:42pm slugluv1313: @Flash Strap -- i believe i have read some of Carrington's fiction -- which novel are you thinking of? and it REALLY hit me when i saw Tanning's "Birthday" at the Philadelphia Museum of Art (had seen photos but never in real life) -- i was totally knocked out, mesmerized -- and realized i had to dig deeper into her work and Carrington's work again :)

	7:49pm Flash Strap: The Hearing Trumpet is the novel I meant - she wrote another, a nonfiction about her time in the asylum. Her short stories are worth tracking down exhaustively, though they seem to appear in different collections w/ lots of overlap. her paintings and drawings are amazing but i didn't know how blown my mind could be till i read her writing
	7:50pm Flash Strap: salvia + music is dangerous but you can just live decades inside a 3 minute song so it's kinda worth it

	7:54pm Flash Strap: re: Leonora carrington: there's also a children's book called Milk of Human Kindness, very weird little collection, that has the funniest story i've ever read

	8:04pm Frog Mover: I'll never forget seeing Faust mad as hell after having their show canceled cause they wanted to shoot hay and fireworks in an underground club. almost died with them I guess

	8:08pm Frog Mover: It was this Faust I believe. They had a giant crazy looking hay blowing machine parked outside the club.

	8:10pm Flash Strap: 70s Faust split into 2 distinct Fausts which i think were both intermittently operating around that time, but i can't keep the personnel straight honestly

	8:11pm slugluv1313: @Flash Strap -- thanks! yes, i think i must have read some of Carrington's stories when i was in college? late 1970s/early 1980s -- i had a class that was called something like "The Avant Garde in Literature" -- we read a lot of experimental, surreal stuff -- thankfully i still have the books from the class! (now if only i could FIND them! sorting through all my books, music, etc. -- daunting! and i always feel like i make more of a "mess" than when i started, hah!)

	8:38pm slugluv1313: was looking for Carrington's works at my local library's website -- The Hearing Trumpet is nowhere to be found in their inter-library catalogue :( however, i just found this -- apparently the novel has been reissued, YAY! nyti.ms...

	8:40pm Flash Strap: we have 2 copies - one with Carrington's wonderful original illustrations, and another with (oddly enough) her son's very dutifully copied replicas of her illustrations (his are greatly inferior but there's a charm)

Her short stories are worth tracking down exhaustively, though they seem to appear in different collections w/ lots of overlap. her paintings and drawings are amazing but i didn't know how blown my mind could be till i read her writing

(now if only i could FIND them! sorting through all my books, music, etc. -- daunting! and i always feel like i make more of a "mess" than when i started, hah!)
