Really I am just getting fed up with Chicago though :) I remember in my early teens in Augusta, Georgia, picking up a station from Chicago on my radio at night. It was Top 40 but played some songs that my local stations didn't. I remember hearing the weather forecasts and thinking "how does anyone survive in those temperatures?"

	2:23pm Ike: @Yeti, in the radio biz, that type of station is known as a “rimshot”, i.e. it’s way out in some distant suburbs/exurbs and just barely reaches the city, and you might have to put your antenna in exactly the right place, or maybe it covers one side of town sorta well.

	2:29pm -Ken: @Ike, @Kat, Yes, I built an 89.5fm station in Chesterton Indiana which grazed the outskirts of Chicago but the logistics proved too much for me and I sold the station to WBEZ and they turned it into the Vocalo station. This was a long time ago..

	2:43pm Kat in Chicago: -Ken, what happened was control of the station reverted back to Loyola, someone got fired (I forget his name), and Shawn Campbell left with a lot of others and started what is now CHIRP (streaming and low-power FM). A few DJs/shows stayed, notably Destination Unknown which I eventually took over, and Abstract Science which is the other big electronic-music show there. We haven't been in the studio since Covid hit, of course. I am currently pre-recording my show at home and connecting with the studio computer via AnyDesk to stream it at show time (from a SoundCloud upload).
	2:46pm YETI BOB: I'm reading a little about the history of WAJW (the repeater station) - was on the air from 1995 to 2002 - I was in Chicago for most of that time, and totally unaware (our out of range), otherwise I would have tuned in!

	2:50pm Kat in Chicago: I was in New York from 1995-98, and my sojourn in Manhattan was where I first heard WFMU. I started listening online when I returned to Chicago as soon as I had means to do so, dropped away for a bit and came back circa 2009 I think.

Really I am just getting fed up with Chicago though :) I remember in my early teens in Augusta, Georgia, picking up a station from Chicago on my radio at night. It was Top 40 but played some songs that my local stations didn't. I remember hearing the weather forecasts and thinking "how does anyone survive in those temperatures?"

	2:43pm Kat in Chicago: -Ken, what happened was control of the station reverted back to Loyola, someone got fired (I forget his name), and Shawn Campbell left with a lot of others and started what is now CHIRP (streaming and low-power FM). A few DJs/shows stayed, notably Destination Unknown which I eventually took over, and Abstract Science which is the other big electronic-music show there. We haven't been in the studio since Covid hit, of course. I am currently pre-recording my show at home and connecting with the studio computer via AnyDesk to stream it at show time (from a SoundCloud upload).
	2:46pm YETI BOB: I'm reading a little about the history of WAJW (the repeater station) - was on the air from 1995 to 2002 - I was in Chicago for most of that time, and totally unaware (our out of range), otherwise I would have tuned in!

	2:50pm Kat in Chicago: I was in New York from 1995-98, and my sojourn in Manhattan was where I first heard WFMU. I started listening online when I returned to Chicago as soon as I had means to do so, dropped away for a bit and came back circa 2009 I think.
