Favoriting December 27, 2020: Czech It
It's the make-up birthday party for Czech bassist Miroslav Vitous's 83rd birthday. A healthy protion of today's show will be devoted to his colorful array of music over the decades. He's an alum of Miles Davis' mid-60's lineup, a Weather Report co-founder, and has appeared with loads of other great ones. Happy birthday (3 weeks ago to the day), Miro!

Just reading about Eric Clapton's weird rightwing racist stances - & wondering about people's internal personality conflicts & repressed hates... I think people are screwed up & under pressure - & underneath there's turmoil & resentment & it passes over into bigotry & hate. That this is actually in people - but another part of them understands they can't be upfront about it - or even doesn't want to. When they get people who represent - or cater to this in Power - then they can rally around it - & point to it as validation & as an acceptable standard.... That both individuals - & society are on fact this conflicted & twisted. Yerknow even Hitler loved his dogs - maybe... The Banality of Evil.

driving home on e night in philly, the car in front of me hit a deer and destroyed it's hind legs and pelvis. 2 other deer were with it and waited around for the hurt one, as it dragged it's bag of a body to the curb and tried repeatedly to get over the curb, but just ended up dragging itsel along it's side, further down the street. another car eventually stopped, and it's driver called his brother, and told him to bring his gun (to put it out of it's misery)... but after a couple of more minutes, that driver decided the poor thing couldn't wait, and decided he's drive over it's head

That animal could feed a few people who are really gonna need it right now. But I know that will seem abhorrent....not like driving all over the last postage stamp of habitat the poor thing had, that's perfectly alright. Meh. I saw a doe near a roadside a couple of summers back, with its hind leg on backwards and its perplexed fawn half-concealed nearby. I hate seeing nature disappearing even faster than I am. It's a real drag.

I went to see Shorter with his quarter a few years back, took my wife (I try to pick shows she may like to go to with her. Had 60s Shorter in mind...). The band wasn't "out", in the dissonant sort of way. But they were really abstract-no clear melody statements, no obvious "hooks". She wound up reading a book the whole time (good thing NJPAC is really big, you can do that and not be noticed. She couldn't do the same at the BassDrumBone set, in a small Manhattan museum, with an audience of about 20 people on for up chairs).
