I never miscue a record. I am punctual, well-prepared, and dislike clutter. Outgoing and helpful, I'm always appropriately dressed. I do not behave erratically and have excellent penmanship. My CD's never skip, and I am in good health. I like all the notes, in any order.

@tim from all over the place: it's really best to keep all nuts and seeds in airtight containers (glass jar) in the refrigerator. oils oxidize and cause rancidity. i think i'm particularly sensitive to this, just the other day i threw away a bunch of peanuts that everyone else though were "fine". i really like walnuts & brazil nuts, which go "off" pretty quickly unless properly stored.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm

@YETI BOB - I recently found a cool recipe that used walnuts as a substitute (for beef) in quesadillas. Basically, chopped walnuts heated in a pan with cajun(ish) spice, then put in the tortillas w/cheese. It was actually really, really good.

BTW an example of that BS is that stuff about "years of experience with toolset X" really isn't true. Sometimes it is of course... but around half the time it isn't. It's just something they write to sound puffy and important to themselves.

@Honeybear: I hear you, I've been coding since the 80s and its not as fun as it used to be - both because the field has changed, and I have too. But it pays the bills and lets me keep sending money to WFMU, which is the most important thing. I haven't done one of those awful whiteboard interviews in a long long time. The last time was around 2008 when Google was trying to recruit me (I flew out to California, did the interview, then told them I wasn't interested). I'm hoping to retire in a few years and spend time tutoring kids in math/physics/computers/making cool stuff.

Yup - have had many variations on that experience. If it happens once in a while, you think "okay maybe I need to do better". But it happens -a lot-. And when you do get in the door, you realize most or the other slouches in there are no better or worse than you - just differently specialized.

@WoodsOfNH: Nope, it's not ageism, it's pure exploitation. They don't care what your age is, what they care about is that you worked for them for free. I once worked at a company that used "open source" this way, and met guys who made a lot of money by doing this kind of "job interviews" (in a shock to nobody, Spotify liked their business model enough to buy them out)

YETI BOB: "Reading Kafka in German for Yuks" needs to be the title of your book!

Sylvia: When I lived in Montpellier there were quite a few Francophone Canadians studying there, that is quite a different accent. I was worried about the state of my French, but in 2016 I was in Quebec City and managed to order poutine for delivery from a very noisy place on a Friday night, without having to ask the woman to repeat herself. I think I collapsed after like someone who'd just run a race.

@YETI BOB: most common error when I have to use a fancy editor: illegal label.
