Hello, all! Today's playlist pic is a piece of Mexican pulp art (don't know the artist).

Wondering what is on the docket for today. Will listen between the cracks of the meetings.

Hiya, WR! Today's show has no special theme -- so it'll just be freeform tomfoolery.

Wow! So cool. Skip has an incredible setup. Visit AV Geeks on Archive.org! Last year he had an all night digitizing event and invited people over. I went over with a couple friends and we got thrown out at around 3am.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm
Hopey Sockmonkey:

Nick, that sounds really cool! I'm jealous.
Avatar 1:15pm
Nick S.:

It was. He hasn't invited me back so I think he rethought the whole party thing. He has work to do and we just got in the way. Back in the 90s these guys did all kinds of fun, cool, eccentric stuff. They lived in this place called the Pinehouse because it was surrounded by pine trees, I guess. I went to a party where Skip was showing various film reels and Pilmer was recording attendees answers to various questions with a handheld tape recorder. Skip started by showing a Fat Albert cartoon on 16mm which I loved then followed it up with a film for doctors from the early 60s for diagnosing child diseases. It was an hour of kids with horribly accute diseases sitting on a bench in a doctor's office crying. To this day it has never left my memory. I though at the time, " What kinda party is this?"
  1:16pm
Mark R:

I don't know what sort of makeup they had in the Middle East in them times, but I'm thinking no. On accounta he was kind of a down-to-earth, simple man. Not vain or anything. What you see is what you get kind of deal. But I understand he was asking Mama, not me. I wonder what Mama's answer was. Or was it more of a rhetorical thing?
  1:18pm
Mark R:

I like this Å track a lot, and I'm very pleased with myself for figuring out how to make an Å.
Avatar 1:19pm
Tony Coulter:

Hey, Mark! Deep questions there, for which I have no answers. Although I will just say that Cleopatra seemed fond of eyeliner.
  1:21pm
Dean:

Bet you didn't know that Jesus's mother's maiden name was Kay. When she applied his rouge she'd ask him, "Now, turn the other cheek."
  1:21pm
Mark R:

Yeah they used charcoal or something. Although Liz Taylor had the Maybelline. BTW a tour guide in Rome pointed to a portrait of Cleo that was carved into the stone at I think the Colloseum and took great delight in pointing out how fat and ugly the real Cleopatra was, and nothing like Elizabeth Taylor.
  1:23pm
Mark R:

I mean this is very sacrilegious, but what if Jesus and his disciples were just a bunch of bitches who went around slapping each other in the face over various perceived slights? And Jesus was like, "Now, now girls, please, let's be civil. We're supposed to be an example to these awful, smelly people."
Avatar 1:25pm
Tony Coulter:

I think you're on to something: youtu.be...
  1:26pm
Dean:

Jesus is all, "Judas, this is the last supper I'm ever inviting you to!"
  1:32pm
Mark R:

Yep, and hence...
  1:34pm

I can't watch all 6 minutes of this, Tony. I'm working here! (Well, sort of...)

ooo, Flash & The Pan. Haven't heard this is awhile.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:34pm
Yvang:

Oh... the ex- Easybeats!
Avatar 1:35pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Mark R: Don't feel bad. I watched less than a second of it. That's all you need to get the idea.
  1:37pm
Mark R:

Considering the low sales numbers for this group, I'm sure whoever signed them to CBS had to take a lot of shit from his fellow A&R guys--those guys are such pricks, anyway. "Yeah, Flash in the pan is right!" And the guy who signed them is all like, "Fuck you, they're good, we can't all afford to give an eight ball to every program director like you, Tony!" And Tony's like "What the fuck did you say?" And then Clive Davis is like, "Come on girls, break it up! Let's set an example."
  1:39pm
Mark R:

I assume you were spinning this Gen Ken track on Halloween, on loudspeakers pointed toward the street, to let the trick or treaters know there wouldn't be any candy this year because, you know, the Covid.
Avatar 1:40pm
Tony Coulter:

How did you know....

It's a very rare day indeed when I've heard of any of the artists you're playing. Today is no exception. I'm a square, you dig?
Avatar 2:07pm

Well, every once in a while I do a show in which every artist is super famous. Just to confuse people.
Avatar 2:08pm

That's what the life of a WFMU listener is: a constant struggle to catch up - and the daily confirmation of the fact that one is, and always will be, a square
