The Klezmatics perform the Jewish music of Woody Guthrie
live in the studio.

The Klezmatics, America's most accomplished and innovative klezmer band are famous for dynamic live performances and
intriguing collaborations with everyone from Tony Kushner to Itzhak Perlman to
the Master Musicians of Jajouka. On this program they present the first preview anywhere of their latest project: Brand new arrangements of Woody
Guthrie's heretofore little-known Jewish (!) songs and poems. It's a tuneup for the Klezmatics's debut
public performance of these songs at the 92 St Y
in Manhattan on December 20 (with guests Arlo Guthrie, Mark Eitzel and Susan

Woody Guthrie spent many years living in Coney Island across the street from
his mother-in-law, the Yiddish poet Aliza Greenblatt, and their relationship
inspired him to write these songs.
They run the emotional gamut from dark Holocaust odes to jaunty Hanukkah
songs that Guthrie wrote for parties at the local Jewish center. To learn more about the history of
