We had to sing this in high school chorale. Oh how we rolled our eyes!

Welcome βrian and Brian and Hopey Sockmonkey! I guess cakey flavors and colors are on our minds today.

Hello Irene and all. Looking forward to the show :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm
Irene Trudel:

βrian, I know this song is really corny but I have a deep fondness for hearing it from time to time. This version includes a "special" off-center disc, which gets a little more wonky as it goes along. And 'hi' to you Constant Follower!

Corn is an essential nutrient sometimes.

(I think John Prine knew that.)

Dang, wish I still had this Mason Williams single. It gives me warm fuzzies for the late 60s.

SWOON
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm

Another stellar choice!

Peter K.:

Fun fact: Mason Williams was a writer on the Smothers Brothers show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm
Hopey Sockmonkey:

I remember seeing him perform the song on their show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm
Irene Trudel:

The late 60's is when I really became aware of music as a life-giving force.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm
Irene Trudel:

And Glen Campbell has a Smothers Brothers connection too. His show was a summer replacement for it and had a lot of the same writers.

Loved the way Dusty used to raise her hand and then twist her wrist. Things you remember.

Ha. Robin Gibb is one of the subjects.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm

Yes, Stanley, I think many of the tunes I'm playing today do still hold up well for me. Thanks for that link, Dean! I saw that about Robin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm

Great Bee Gees single.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm
Webhamster Henry:

BTW:Leroy Anderson: practically the Connecticut State Composer. Sorry Charles Ives!
  12:59pm
Peter K.:

Interesting fact about "Long Cool Woman," which I just learned from Wikipedia: John Fogerty sued the Hollies for plagiarism, and was awarded a 50% share of the royalties in an out-of-court settlement. (The song he said they plagiarized was "Green River," although I always thought it was just a generalized Creedence ripoff.) Thanks to the internet, I also now know for the first time ever what all the words are!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm
Hopey Sockmonkey:

I do still have this wonderful Nick Lowe single.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm
Irene Trudel:

Wow, I didn't know that Peter! I also didn't know that about Leroy Anderson, Henry. He's always been a favorite. Hopey, I'm a big Nick Lowe fan and have nearly every single from that era of with picture sleeves (that one is pictured at the top).

I think the NHS had their app running for the last month or so, I have registered. Irene, you have got me pondering!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm

Sean, I always worry about the data collection aspect of apps like this. I figure if it will help track and tamp down newer infections, I want to help, but I'm inherently a skeptic.

Peter K.:

I had never heard this Dylan performance before. I love it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53pm
Irene Trudel:

Peter, it's the B-side of the single, I Want You. Kind of unusual for its time, but I'll bet it's on one of the Dylan compilations.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm
Webhamster Henry:

It's the other BS&T than the one a few shows ago.
  2:54pm
Peter K.:

P.S.: I will never forget seeing Dylan at Madison Square Garden very shortly after 9/11 (and neither, I know, will Irene). He did that song, and when he came to the line "I'm going back to New York City, I do believe I've had enough," the crowd went NUTS.
