A live, improvised sound collage experiment, going back 28 years, weaving mesmerizing new soundscapes from found and collected materials right in the present moment.
Pop music, speeches, live phone calls and spontaneous monologues become ambient loopy layered threads riding the liminal spaces between waking and dreaming. [On hiatus.] (Visit homepage.)

Hello. Did I pass the test?
Avatar 12/18 3:00pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Hi Ken. Comments will look the sameish. The bigger changes will be on the songs side. But comments will be different on a phone mobile browser!

Hi Kenzo, how is this "dynamic" Any special bells and whistles in store? Free balloons for the kids?
Avatar 12/18 3:03pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Everything about the songs listing is super live. No more flashing page reloads once a minute.
Avatar 12/18 3:04pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

I can even throw you all out to the bottom and then immediately welcome you back in...here comes that...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12/18 3:04pm
Phillippe Bastille:

@Kenzo the no flashing will make me VERY happy.
Avatar 12/18 3:05pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

The page should look a lot better on a phone browser. (No effect on the apps...) wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12/18 3:06pm

Ooo! Fancy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12/18 3:06pm
Rich in Washington:

There's no delay once you hit 'update'?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12/18 3:06pm
Phillippe Bastille:

The one thing that's a little weird for me is that when the comments autoscroll, the bottom line is half cutoff horizontally (PC, Firefox)
Avatar 12/18 3:07pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

@Philllllllppe Yeah, I'm seeing that too right now. And the auto-scroll/arrow thing isn't always kicking in.
Avatar 12/18 3:07pm
mb:

I kind of like the flashing page. It has snapped me out of many cannabis induced hazes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12/18 3:08pm
Phillippe Bastille:

The autoscroll rarely worked for me
Avatar 12/18 3:08pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Well instead of flashing you're going to get sea sick from all the fading in and out of song changes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12/18 3:08pm
Rich in Washington:

It seems to have eliminated the persistent 'down' arrow at the bottom of the comments that I encounter w/Mac - Chrome. It actually prevents one from highlighting text - like if you wanna copy someone's name to reply.
I don't see thathere, which is nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12/18 3:09pm
Phillippe Bastille:

Dramamine, cannabis, all kind of the same
Avatar 12/18 3:09pm
mb:

Autoscroll rarely worked and sometimes the arrow stayed lit indicating there was a new post BUT there was not a new post.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12/18 3:09pm
Rich in Washington:

I could see me getting used to the fading in playlist entries.
Avatar 12/18 3:09pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Yeah, the comments arrow/scroll thing didn't work right on some browsers and I think that's still the case. Maybe the persistent arrow will happen less, but I want to get that whole thing working better.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12/18 3:09pm
Rich in Washington:

Yeah, mb. That's exactly what I meant. It was sort of a pain.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12/18 3:11pm
Phillippe Bastille:

I think the down arrow was some kind of sophisticated AI/machine learner that knew someone was thinking about posting
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12/18 3:13pm
Rich in Washington:

Now I'm listening to two shows AND the House of Representatives hearing at the same time.
Avatar 12/18 3:14pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

If anyone wants to try it on a mobile browser I'd love to hear about it...
Avatar 12/18 3:15pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

One comments change is that if you keep commenting after the show ends and things are at the bottom, the comments will keep updating for a while; so, that last bit of convo won't be lost.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12/18 3:16pm

I'm on my Android phone now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12/18 3:19pm
Rich in Washington:

Hmmm. Honestly I don't know what the difference is, as I rarely visit playlists on my phone, but it seems a bit easier than I remember it. Definitely better than the app and unofficial app.
Avatar 12/18 3:20pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

The text is more of a normal size rather than a crazy desktop page zoom, plus the comments and songs are kept separate (if your screen is narrow enough).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12/18 3:21pm
Rich in Washington:

Yeah. I'm definitely going to read and comment this way on my phone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12/18 3:22pm
Rich in Washington:

Yeah. Much better than I remember it. The app is really awful for commenting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12/18 3:22pm
Rich in Washington:

Sorry if you had anything to do with the app.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12/18 3:23pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

On Windows Firefox browser, as comments come in, I have to move the scroll bar down to see them. The floating arrow thingie isn't appearing like in the previous version (when you click it, it would zoom you down to the bottom of the comments).
Avatar 12/18 3:23pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Not a thing (well, it interacts with my server backend of course) and yeah it's awful. There's a new one from a new dev right around the corner, though!
Avatar 12/18 3:24pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

@KenFHP If you reload the page once, does that keep being the case?

  12/18 3:30pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12/18 3:37pm
chris:

yes on iphone and ipad to the changing stuff at top... line. not on chrome, tho
  12/18 3:37pm
BH:

Kenzo, I mean, it appears to be working. Open site, the comments bar starts at the top and scrolls to the most recent comments. As opposed to opening and already being at the most recent.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12/18 3:38pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

I take that back about M.E. browser. It's not repainting the comments. The comment at 3:33 is at the bottom and it's overlaying new comments as they arrive. Will try sending a picture.
Avatar 12/18 3:38pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Who sees "Do you only see this" and also sees "Changing stuff at the top..." below it?
Avatar 12/18 3:38pm

@KenFHP Eeek, it's writing new comments on top of old comments?

Quite unrelated to important visual and technical assessments, but a thin degree of fun: When I grab any edge of the browser window to adjust size, Shatner slows down and gets haltingly slappy while the adjustment is active, like his paw's taking a dramatic pause.

Don't know if this matters or you already covered it:
When adjusting browser window size horizontally to be smaller, going from either left or right, everything at the top and the comments area adapts with line-breaks, etc. to stay "whole" and visible, but the actual playlist grid stays same size/layout and gets covered up by the comments stack as it slides across. Eventually, at the max horiz adjustment it'll let me do, the left section of the playlist is only visible to half the "Format" column.
On Irwin's now-active playlist, his 3 columns do reduce themselves horizontally to stay visible.
On David W now-active playlist, the horizontal adjustment will have comment area moving over to cover just his far-right DJ comment column.
Make sense?
