hi, Jan and all!

SoP: a couple of years ago i saw a screening of the VERY FIRST lady-tied-to-the-tracks movie. It was a teenaged Gloria Swanson!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22am
Mx. Granny (e/em):

The star of the movie was a dog!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23am

I've seen that radio before.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43am
Rich in Washington:

We need to bring back megaphone singing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45am
Jan Turkenburg:

Maurice Kagel attempted to do so. I've sung in a student choir, a piece of his required 30 singers with megaphones. It was a blast!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45am
Franco Twinkie:

More like singing through a caution cone.
Avatar 10:47am

Avatar 10:51am

A customer offered me a silvertone combo radio, phonograph, wire recorder the other day. Anyone familiar with the wire?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53am

Yes, He did, Granny!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00am
Jan Turkenburg:

WR :-) :-) :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01am
Rich in Washington:

@ Cp304: wire recorders are fascinating! I've seen those combo units before, one where one disengaged the belt from the record player to run the wire unit and vice versa.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01am
Rich in Washington:

I remember they used wire recorders on old Dragnet episodes.
Avatar 11:04am
Cp304:

Interesting. There is a spool there labeled “1948 breakfast at the Frederick”. I’m interested to hear it as this is a popular building in my city which we spent much time with moms dad back in the day
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07am
Franco Twinkie:

Rich, and Joe Gannon would always eat lunch sitting at his desk.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07am
Mx. Granny (e/em):

chrestikins! how's the south end of this blazing state today?
  Swag For Life Member 11:09am
WR:

I was surprised to learn how long wire recorders were still in production. Initially I had thought it was mostly industrial use up to WWII but did find out that their home use popularity was post WWII, up to the mid / late 50s. Never have played with one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15am
Feldpausch:

The Netherlands are so beautiful
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18am
Jan Turkenburg:

Maybe I have forgotten, but were are you from again Feldpausch? I just had a peek at your website but it doesn't tell :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22am
Mx. Granny (e/em):

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22am
Mx. Granny (e/em):

then again, you just CAN'T go wrong with Henry Hall!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24am

@Jan I live in Phoenix, Arizona. I've been to the Netherlands twice and I think about going back all the time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am
chresti:

Blazing hot, Grannykins, 103 yesterday and later today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28am
Rich in Washington:

I think wire recorders were more recently used for data logging. A place I worked at used them for encoding data on short segments to be inserted into fish for magnetic detection in fisheries. Sort of like the magnetic strip on a library book.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30am
Jan Turkenburg:

I've never been outside Europ, but when I visited countries like Germany, France, England, Danmark and Ireland and having lived in the hills in South East Belgium, I can't help but find our country a bit boring with all it's flatness...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34am
Feldpausch:

I certainly love the geography of Arizona, and the aforementioned countries. I do love the people I met in the Netherlands. At least you're a short train ride from the mountains.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35am
Feldpausch:

Ireland is great. It has a quiet grace
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am
Rich in Washington:

Woo hoo! Working from home today and everyone's away! I'm playing this rather loudly throughout the whole house!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am
Rich in Washington:

Where's my megaphone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am
Jan Turkenburg:

LOL!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am
Franco Twinkie:

Feldpausch, I bet you could tell us namby-pamby crybabies out in Los Angeles something about hot.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm
